I suspect the smell of the exhaust takes you back in time too. Strange to think that all roads smelled of actual burned fuel back then.

I miss my old Alfa spider..... :-(

Here's me ragging my 1966 1600cc Duetto round an Alfa Romeo club autotest at North Weald aerodrome in the early 80's.

I had a triumph dolomite sprint. Horrible round bends.

I had a triumph spitfire. Horrible round bends and in a straight line.

As for rag tops. I would never have another unless I move to the cote De zur

Actually the ragtop idea isn't dead for me at all. While the little Peugeot I mentioned that doesn't belong to me at all is a slow little thing, indeed a lady's conveyance, on the rare occasions I'm forced to use it (checking the function of everything/mine in the garage/my keys have been tidied away - that sort of thing) I do rather look forward to testing the roof mechanism. The slidy - tilty - foldy motion is reminiscent of an old folding camera and I am constantly in awe of the designers of these dissappearing car roofs. Naturally there is then no luggage space at all, which is why I'm baffled that Peugeot call ther car a "five seater" and equip it with a commensurate array of seat belts. Surely they should have called the "rear seat" exactly what it is - a "handbag shelf" and reaped the reward of numerous sales to females who may think that's a spiffing idea and at the same time pat their Gallic selves on their Gallic backs for this unaccustomed burst of Gallic honesty.

But I digress. Once the lid is folded and stowed I rather enjoy driving around with total 360 degree vision, breeze in what remains of my hair, and what passes for an exhaust note in my ears. So they're not completely wasted on me.

Very interesting to see all the frustrated racers that have taken up shooting. Matt & Steve Neal, Jackie Oliver, Ron Dennis , Mike Hewland's delinquent son, Phil R, Max Tilton and many many more .

You missed off the greatest of all time, Sir J Y Stewart. GB Olympic Trap team member and F1 World Champion.  I'm sure 40 UP can fill his shooting achievements in, his F1 exploits are legendary.
