If some bright person was to get various sponsors together to supply goods as prizes ,( PC World, Halfords, Maplins, City Electric, Candy, Sony, etc) A car dealer provide a car but insure against it being won .

We could then have a very high profile competition probably with Cable TV coveridge. OT would be a brilliant discipline to cover and camera shots should not be too difficult to cover.

Going back to late 70's and early 80's, we had the likes of Saab, Eley, Alitalia Airlines to name a few who were big on sponsorship and the shooters turned up in their droves but in those days I was only shooting sporting so I do not know what went on in trap or skeet. I believe that in sporting the top boys will win or be in the mix BUT many shooters thought they stood a chance on the day which drove the entries up.

It is my belief that in trap, the top boys will be at the top with few exceptions so perhaps even with sponsorship people are less tempted to ' give it a go ' because they simply know that they will not win.

I know it took me a while to come to terms with a talent free existence and I'm sure there are quite a number of "serious" shooters who have failed to yet do so.  Forever in search of that elusive target or two or four.

Thinking you have a chance and actually having one are pretty dependent on the game.  Seems like high reward games have some fairly difficult terms and those are always going to bring the best to the fore and shooting is the same.  Can you run against Bolt?  Can you golf against Woods?  Can you shoot against Digweed?

Why would any of that be a surprise?  Every game has it's current elite.  Life will never be fair (while wringing a tear stained towel) and I'll prolly never hit a Low8 at international skeet.    BFD

trap had its sponsors once upon a time. rolex for the ot, subaru for the dtl but that has all but gone apart from the Kriegof that is who do very good work with Alan Rhone as far as dtl is concerned. Beretta of course do something similar at the bywel weekend.

You are right Phil there is an elite top few trap shooters who seem to dominate but that has always been the case, seems to me that success breeds success the rest of us merely make the numbers up and hope for a credible score.

My advice for any trap shooter who aches for success and recognition is to shoot your regional team selection shoots in your chosen discipline as a team place at county and regional level is achievable, it will also give you an insight into country level selection shoots. With a few exceptions the top boys don't seem to bother with the regional teams from my experience therefore as said earlier it is an achievable goal. You have to be in it to win it as they say.
