I have to use Fibre wad cartridges at a clay shoot im attending in a couple of weeks. Looking at the fibre cartridges, the shot is not contained in a holder like the plastic wads and so i have a couple of Qs.

1. Will the shot pattern open up quicker on leaving the gun (as the fibre wad just pushes the shot out), unlike the plastic, which holds the shot together for a very short period on firing?

2. Someone told me to ignore the fact that they are fibre and just shoot as normal. Which is great unless Q1 answer is yes! So i wondered if anyone tightened their chokes a little when using fibre cartridges during ESP because of the possible premature opening the pattern?

Thank you in advance,

Just shoot like you would with your normal cartridges.

I'm relatively new at this but I agree some are definitely more thumpy and I hate seeing all the bits - very confusing for a novice. You think you are seeing bits of clay - if only! If anyone can suggest a good fibre 21g or 24g cartridge mid range price that I could use for Beretta world I would be grateful.

Fiocchi top1 24g budget priced cartridge that goes bang, not thumpy

Redders- if you pattern your gun you will see any difference between the two types of carts stick to a brand you normally use but don't bother with changing chokes it will mess with your head.

Try Hull Intercomp's they are really soft to shoot and kill well, other than that Fiocchi TT2's if you can get them.

These should be fine through your gun which doesn't have overbored barrels but try them first.

In a 21g shell, hull compx and express hv  are both decent shells in both fibre and plas wad. Mrs Fuz has shot both of them in each variant and gets on well with them.   I have to say I found the Express slightly softer when I nabbed a few but either are hardly punchy :)

Thank you for your help/ advice troops. I shoot reasonably well with Gamebore/Kent Velocity's (Plastic), so have bought 500 Velocity fibre too. I'll ignore them as much as i can and just shoot, but as @Sian says, the bits flying everywhere are off putting. I can but try!!!

You won't get bits of broken wad flapping about with decent cartridges. Eley First used to look like you were attending a Satanic wedding there was so much black confetti in the air. I use Clever T2 Fibre (when I have to) and they never shatter the wad.

when tested on a plate, fibres thru my old gun were about a 1/4 choke more open than when using plastics.

obviously this is dependant on what shells you are using as they are all different. in my case it was a mondial plastic vs a viper bgc fibre
That's a pretty good rule of thumb I found.

Hull superfast are good in fibre. Use those on my farm shoots for clay get togethers!
