I must admit as a competitor the joy of sporting to me is walking to a stand and not knowing what's coming I don't even walk any courses first just pick a stand and get on with it

Love the idea of practicing it afterwards, as I mentioned in another post today. But the WHOLE point of sporting is to walk up to a stand and see something for the first time surely. Without that we are bloody trap shooters, learning to hit stuff by trial and error, not evaluation and experience.

OK I'll bite... what a pile of smouldering cack. ALL shooting what every form is trial and error end off. In trap you don't get the privilege of seeing the targets from every stand, at UT you never get the same target twice in any one round and you don't know what target you will get until it leaves the trap house.

"see something for the first time surely"........... don't make me laugh you could have watched the same target 30 times or more before you actually shoot it........... you branch swingers have a high opinion of yourselves :)

From a trap perspective I find practice on Fri can on occasions be of little use as weather and lighting etc on the Day Can be totally different also the targets are usually altered sat morning anyway.

Can't comment on sporting if course just my two peneth.

haha,,, I`ll let someone else reply to that,,,,, don`t want to get personal about trap  Versus sporting,,, I will say that sporting is not all Mexican head shots!,,  probably why trap and its variations  is an olympic  sport,  as it is so rigidly controlled ?

sporting is a big variable,,,, and not always monkeys shooting it,,, I might add !!!

Practicing trap is great as it is another day shooting.... helpful could be if they don't change the scheme . As to mister how far can I get up my own ricker trap is no different to any other moving target game you watch the target assess and then take your shot based on what you have seen.... the big difference is you do not know what is coming out of the house you have not been standing watching them for the last fifteen minutes and with UT at least if you miss any target you don't get another chance to trial and error it as you do in sporting because you only get that target once.

This has to be definite NO it would be like allowing some people to see the exam results the day before. Some would not remember what they saw but a few most certainly would .

This would certainly give huge benefits to the locals to ground, and would deter a lot of shooters from further afield .

Anyway its obscene that people have the time and the money to practice mid week.
I presume you are joking ! Or if not then your a tw*t.

Well this hedge monkey can watch for 15 mins and still forget where they are coming from . Ips had another go at ABT today still frustrating

Hi sian

you must keep at it. It takes a few goes to get your trap brain working. Trap is always difficult for sporters. Obviously I haven't seen you shoot it but from my experience sporters general try to see a sight picture this will not work you must trust your sub conscious and let it pull the trigger at the right time not when you think it is. Well done for shooting it as it is imo and many top ot shooters opinion that abt is the hardest discipline. Have a search on trap section for trap shooting tips.

Regards ian

I don't agree with practicing before shoot days. You may as well set the targets yourself, shoot them and then register the score...

I really don't like the idea of that I must say. There is definite advantage when you set the targets, you know the flight lines and the speeds - and most of all the pitfalls. I didn't ever enter a shoot at Wylye all the time we were there. I remember shooting an odd Fitasc but didn't register my score. Wouldn't really be fair would it?

dont see a problem with this as long as its birds only , but definitely not for prize money or points in a selection process , ive personnally missed out on alot of team olaces as i host the shoots and turn down the chance to compete

but it has happened

It can't be for birds only either though can it? The score would count towards classifications and thats not acceptable either.

That's easy Steve just make it open. Don't bother registering it. People come to shoot and get better at your targets.

Easypeasy

I don't see a problem with shooting your own targets,if you're not registering them. But it's just the same as practicing the course to shoot a better score or unfairly improve your averages.

dont know as i agree with that as i have to keep my average down somehow ,good job i couldnt give a monkeys stuff on averages and classifications then !!!!! hahaha

as ive said many a time chasing scores to improve averages dont work , its all experience that does it over time

Having the facility to pick and choose which scores to submit would give an obvious advantage to someone who wanted to go up the classes. Its a good job the system doesn't allow it to happen.
