Yet again I learn from this site. Until this thread go going and I read Shmokinn's post I had no idea that other regions had Facebook pages and proper web sites within the CPSA main site.

Doubtless someone will read this thread and spring into action...
not quite sure they have ever sprung into action over anything....oh apart from when i lost my scorecard to the wind and i received a warning letter within the week for not putting it in (the first time in 20 years)!!

that is the sought of thing they find massively important, not the sort of things that will have a massive impact on our sport and that we believe we are actually paying them to represent us!

Instead of standing on the sidelines shouting it would be good if some of you became involved with your County CPSA and Regional Committee. Its there that issues can be discussed and representations made to change the matters that concern you.

But you expected me to say that didn't you?

If anyone from CPSA is reading this then I am happy to donate time to help the creation of the app.
I could provide a lot of the code already. Tablet and mobile based scoring ( even a smartwatch integration ) with scheduling on a central server and real time scoring updates to the clubhouse ( wirelessly with a peer to peer self healing network so no fancy  infrastructure required )  and onward to the internet. A hardware device to monitor traps to alert on battery voltages and low magazine and potentially monitor them overnight for security purposes. Maps integrated with scheduling to display fixtures graphically. ( I'll put a demo up shortly ) Got plans to integrate NFC into the scoring side to remove the need for paper completely and can already control traps from the tablet as well.  A ruggedised tablet could replace a trap controller costing a grand at a fraction of the price. project on the desk is to explore voice triggered trapping.

I spoke to a rep of a well known trap manufacturer about commercialising all of this but never got a call back from their director.

I look forward to seeing you in The Den!

it's our County AGM this month, in the short term rock up to it, they might be looking for some assistance with the county web pages,

I have to disagree. I have been there and done that for 3 years or more. I used to drive from Merseyside to Harrogate, at least a 2 hour drive after working all day and in some atrocious weather, to achieve what ?  Well, absolutely NOTHING really and I could not even have a pint due to the distance to travel. During 1 snowstorm I arrived home at 3.00am. after the 'meeting' only to have to go back to work at 7.00am. Any ideas for change were usually voted against by the 'clique' who had been on 'The Committee' for some years. It came as no suprise that they were local to the venue for the meetings too. The outcome is still the same, regional County Championships being held half way across the Country and very often the County Champion was the only contender from their County who bothered to turn up.

I have to say, I looked at the Berks CPSA committee and figured out that they were all very happy living in 1978 and left it there..

Ah well. Thats that then. The definitive answer. Its all a waste of time.

If you're not prepared to do something about it - stop bloody moaning!

Thank you and good night.

Seems we have it good. Our committee is generally fairly forward thinking and has done a good deal over the past few years to push the sport forward. With the exception of the Olympic disciplines, all the county championships enjoy a good attendance despite some of them being held outside the region due to a woeful lack of registered grounds in our part of the country. In fact we've done so well that those representing the county at the intercounty events are now paid to do so.

I'm amazed smart phone tech hasn't been intergrated at grounds yet. The current system is so outdated, it's crying out for something like this. Voice activating technology is so good now, there's no reason why a Siri type system couldn't be used to operate traps for solo shooters.

There is real progress folks. I started shooting (properly) in 2005, at which point shooting grounds were appropriate for 1980 and the surrounding tech was about right for 1998. It's all moved on. Now it's 2002 and 2008 respectively.

Not simple but certainly doable. There are some processing challenges and some practical challenges like limiting who the device is listening to! Using the standard libraries you run into little challenges like having to use 'Ok bingle, Pull' which is going to make you look like a real muppet! :)  There are some latency challenges to overcome too.  It all has to work entirely locally as a lot of grounds are devoid of even basic cell or network coverage. Power supply, ruggedisation and dealing with ham fisted shooters are all part of the challenge. There is potential in letting a shooter download an app with the control stuff to their own phone that patches in to the grounds network with the app acting as payment system, trap controller, record keeper and scorer all in one. Interesting projects all!

The dinosaurs need not worry though the old trap controls will be around for a while! :)
