I've sent my gun to the manufacturers for a service and will probably be with them for a week or so. Do I need to inform the Police that I'm no longer in possession of it, albeit temporarily?

Whenever this has happened to me they (the shop) have given me a receipt that looks rather like the letter you get to send or email to the police that lets them now of a transfer. Albeit this one states it’s temporarily in there care. I have always forwarded this onto my Firearms department as I would rather them say you’ve let us know about this and you didn’t need too than well you didn’t tell us about this…….

NO.
I feel sure the Manufacturers will have an RFD. (Registered Firearms Dealer). They will have booked it in. Should the Police require to know the guns location, they can check with them.
