I saw this beauty parked up at Southdown today. Had a nice chat with its owner who informed me that there were only two on the road, his being the first..........lucky chap :D

I'm a Land Rover brand fan. My wife has an Evoque and I have the sport. I really see this as a pointless car that just splits the size between the two, which isn't vast..

 
I actually see all Land Rover products as pointless , unless you like visiting dealerships or repair specialists and parting with vast amounts of money?

 
I'm a new 4x4 fan, the marque doesn't make that much difference as long as it's gorgeous because I just love the look of them, they're all pointless really and Will/Salopians points are just among many correct criticisms. 

Yesterday driving through London I saw my third ever Bentley Bentayga and it was utterly hideous and the chances are the owner knows that but the reason he drives that is quite simple, apart from the fact it may well be the tenth car in his collection he needs to send the message out that he can afford the Velar but prefers to spend 2.5 times as much to let you know it, that's the simple reality of big ticket cars, it isn't about practicality, wants or needs, it's about spending obscene amounts of money to stand out. 

 
I'm a Land Rover fan, too. But I have to say that the attraction of the marque has waned recently as JLR seem to be heading away from their roots as purveyors of upmarket 4x4 vehicles towards the "Look at Me" sector of footballers' wives school run chariots.

Just what I thought.

First thing that came to my mind was Cheshire set pimp mobile.

I expect them to be driven mostly by the wives of Footballers or shell suited women and their several sprogs from several fathers  with a tv crew in tow types. 

 
Having ventured into Range Rover territory once with an Evoque, waited 6 months, after 6,000 miles it simply fell apart and then spent 12 consecutive weeks in the dealer.  They lent me a brand new RR Sport, that had it's own set of foibles, tailgate would open of it's own accord driving down the road, some days the radio display would be blank...called the dealer to be advised 'they do that sometimes sir', the central locking made all the right noises but did actually lock the doors.....  Back to the Evoque after 12 weeks they still hadn't fixed it (included techs from the factory in Speke working on it) and I rejected it - LR had the wretched thing back.

I returned to Audi and have remained there ever since, one had got used to not knowing the local dealer's service department on 1st name terms.

Personally speaking I have maximum respect for the design (other than that grossly ugly bus with offset rear numberplate they are selling now), the Velar is a lovely looking vehicle but I'd need a lot convincing that the beauty was more than skin deep with decent engineering and fully sorted before it left the factory rather than having escaped from R&D.

Are you thinking of anyone in particular who might already have a pink Range Rover?
Not reallly. Just my (admittedly limited) observation and sterotyping of a media created culture that seems to exist in areas such as Essex, Cheshire and Chelsea. It also appears to have popped up in Beverley Hills.

I think the whole principle of the Velar comes under the heading of 'Marketing'. If JLR had stayed in the 1950's with their products then we would all  have been the poorer for it.

 
There are certainly a lot more than two Velars out there. 

I  currently run a Disco Sport 

23K miles since May, so far so good. 

Its a lease car so if it breaks I just get a replacement.

Would rather spend on the Maserati Levante.... 

Its probably cheaper to buy and runthan A Landy....

Oh and its Italian.....

 
As a (retired) motor technician by trade,among other things, I recon if i won the lotto i wouldn't change from Subaru , i have had a couple of foresters, and the big bonus is it always do`s the job, starts ,gets there, gets me back, and believe me, i have been places  that 4x4`s  get towed out by me.! And i`m not exaggerating . Old design and not the most modern, bot it will be going strong when the x5`s evoques ,etc are beer cans.  :D

 
loving my 14 year old Touareg V10 so every extra available at the time complex electronic 4 wheel drive and goes like a rocket,doesn't seem to bad off road even with conti road tyres.

As my wife put it the Evoke "looks like a girls car" to a mate..made me laugh and i have never seen anything so badly designed as the back of the new discovery,Fiat Multipla ugly.

Was going to by a sport but after seeing 4 of them broken down at the side of the road in one week took it as an omen and decided to save my money

 
Nice looking thing it must be said.  But......... 40 odd thou for the base model with a 180 bhp engine? Come on.  

Just a thought. Skoda scout nearly new with 180ish BHP ( Reliable) yours for under 18 thou.
