I think a lot of new shooters are scared to approach the top shooters like ed and richard and the like, yet if they did they would be surprised how friendly and helpful they are.

Again - completely agree, and that's another reason the forum can work... those guys make themselves available (on their own terms) and people can connect - so new shooters can a) read that wisdom and see if it compares, and b ) breaks down the fear of approaching them themselves.

What other sport can you think of where you can rub shoulders with the elite at a competition?

Its pretty much unknown in other most other sporting circles so they are bound to feel a bit intimidated to ask questions in case they get a put down for what might be a dumb question which is very unlikely to happen

I am new to the sport, been shooting for about 6 months now. Only a couple of my friends are into shooting so just about everything I know about shooting came from this forum. The information to be found on here is endless. I don't tend to post very much because my knowledge of the sport is little. I log in about 5 times a day, just to see if there's anything new! Since joining the forum I've gone from knowing nothing about shooting, to having lessons, buying my first gun, shooting about once a week and now having the confidence to go out knowing that I'll have a great time no matter how many clays I hit and that most importantly, I'll be safe.

Thanks to everyone

Excellent stuff - glad it has been useful for you!

I think I may fall into this category! I am usually able to find an answer to any questions I have in previous topics, therefore not had much need to post. I am relatively new to shooting so enjoy reading the board to absorb as much information as possible (I also work behind a PC and love to procrastinate!)

I want to start entering registered shoots and trying different disciplines so am sure there will be some questions coming from me in the near future.

James
if you want to know how much I like procrastinaton, I'll tell you........tomorrow!

As a newbie to clay pigeon shooting for little under a year I monitored this forum for a few months until I felt I had something worth contributing, I introduced myself with a posted entitled 42,000 cartridges. I felt this post had some value to newbie’s like me which will and have gone through the same up’s, downs and frustration as I have and occasionally still do with my shooting, the reply’s I had were to say the least mixed with a few pats on the back (thank you) and others asking whether I was serious, bonkers or I had an interesting sense of humor.

It would seem my attempt to interact and become a contributing member of this forum had failed at my first post; therefore in the future I will be keeping my thoughts to myself and go back to monitoring this forum.

Hi Andy

I wouldn't worry too much about the comments to your post as most of them were good replies.(and even the ones you mentioned were not that bad)

There was just a lot in it to get your head around, but i am sure with the 457 views you had quite a few people will have found it interesting.

Maybe if you had replied to some of the comments it would have been a different story as you would have been interacting and discussing the various points you made in your post.

Don't give up on it just yet,i'm sure you have more to offer in the future.

All the best

Kev

Hello Andy, I commented on your original post, I don't think in a bad way, I just wasn't sure, because it is very rare for an experienced shot to get through that many shells in a year let alone a beginner. What Disciplines where you shooting? I hope you haven't shot yourself into the ground, because I would bet most shooters on here started with 50 sporting at the weekend (sitting on straw bale optional).

Me too Andy. We have a lot of jokes on this site and I also thought it was a wind up.

Like Jake said not many serious shooters shoot that many in a year.

So let's start again now we know it was not a wind up. What area are you and what have you been shooting? One discipline or have you been trying several?

Hi Andy, I actually felt quite sorry for you on your original post, I admired you for being able to get through 42k bullets in your first year and quite honestly, couldn't believe the reaction you got, no wonder only 10% of the member list actually contribute to threads in here!

My wife, Parkie is a new member and constantly holds back any questions she has rather than posting on here as a certain few members are down right rude and obnoxious so tell me, how does this help out new members

Who has been rude to you Ian .....?

I do not read all the threads....so have missed it.

Not me exactly Nicola, I give as good as I get usually, I just read a lot of posts and see some of the comments that come back and think 'bit harsh' and it makes me think that's the reason newbies keep quiet ??

I think the problem is people seeing an exchange between friends where they are taking the Mickey and not knowing that they are friends....so it is interpreted in totally the wrong way.

I think if people actually started from the point that all on here are pals and some of the short comment one line posts could be because they are in a rush....some of the cutting ones are actually jokes between friends, then there would not be so many negative views about people's posts.

If you are on Facebook with any of the people you will see that it is B. A. N. T. E. R ......remember Facebook is a place where 'only' your friends can post.

That I think is where some on here are taking wrong takes on posts because they are out of the joke loop.

.......just saying (hope it helps any of the timid onlookers).

Yeah I think you've hit the nail on the head there, we've met some great people on here and had some great days out and hopefully will continue to do so.

Matt does a great job with the forum and its a shame more people don't contribute but hey !

Aye, we all had to start shooting, when we did we were all newbie's at the game. Just the same as contributing to the forum, you start as a newbie, but quickly get into the stride of things. Post and be damned is my mantra, bugger what folk think of my contributions.

Andy, stick your chest out and get stuck in here, some will agree with you, some will not, that's life. Don't be put off by a couple of negative reply's.

Yes, Ed used to be a bit timid about asking me for advice. -_-

Now he's England Sporting captain. Huzzah!

He's a bit of a tit, but I'm getting him thrashed into shape slowly..... <_<

I would hate to think anyone took the things i say to heart, i'd like to think that we all take most of the posts on here with the lighthearted fluffy rabbits ethos that the majority were written with, agreed you will always get some friction but this is generally stomped on by the powers that be. There are also serious posts but it is rare for them to deteriorate into bickering, you only get one life and it's a bit too short to take things said by people you have never met too seriously. It should only matter if it comes from someone who knows you. SO LIGHTEN UP, it'll be over before you want otherwise!

Ive only been shooting 2/3 months and would consider myself a bit of a lurker. Being new you do have loads of questions but if you search a little so much has been covered within the forum previously (which is great!). Someone even started a thread about entering the dreaded first sporting registered and how to approach it around the same time as me.

I have contributed to a couple of threads however and was thanked for my input and encouraged, but there's no point waffling on if you don't know what you're on about.

All the fluffy rabbits is fun to read and it is very well run, on the whole it's all good. Not much to worry about from over here.

:)
