Re- Nicola post on SO5

Exactly why i got the eell. Always promised myself an so and when i was in a position to get one i gave it much thought and decided that as a weekly competitive gun the dt would stand up better than the so. Apart from the fact that it looks similar but was about 10k less.

With regards to cost of stuff well buy the best you can afford but never ever compare yourself with others as there is always some one with more. I don't give a hoot what anyone else has or what it costs neither am i intimidated by wealth or social standing. I enjoy what i am able to attain.

Just saying.
Yes Ian the SO is a lovely gun and I once wanted one. Well I managed to borrow one from a guy I knew, just for one round of ot. It shot nicely enough but not any better than the dt10 I had at the time! After that I ceased to want one. They cost a fortune too, but still very nice guns though!

Cheapest I can get (under 10 quid) if I lost, scratched, sat on a £400 pair of specs I would cry.

I dont understand how they can justify that price tag, my prescription glasses only cost £160.00 from the opticians so some non prescription coloured glass just seems too steep.

My current specs are from aldi, three changeable lenses, £4.50

For some they may be a fashion statement or an indication of wealth. For the majority of shooters who use a specialist such as Ed Lyons they are a necessity as they have an unusual prescription that a normal optician can't deal with.

I don't have limitless funds but the money that I spent on SHOOTING glasses earlier this year was well spent and has rectified a situation that I have struggled with for many years.

Don't think shooting glasses can be seen as either a fashion statement....or an indication of wealth...... They are quite ugly things....and if someone did want to flash the cash to impress anyone.....a 500 or grand on shooting glasses would not really do it. I don't get impressed with trinkets.....only with people and how they behave.

It is so strange how people view technical kit. Ah well......enjoy your shooting in 2014 with what ever you enjoy using to see.

My vote is for Pilla everytime. I used to have a set of cheap Jack pyke shooting shooting glasses and they were ok. A pal of mine, who is one for all the latest kit, then bought a set of Pilla panthers. I tried them when we were shooting and the difference between them and my Jack Pyke set was incredible. I am a bit of a researcher and started trying most of the options out there to get the best glasses i could to suit me for clays and game as i shoot a lot of both.

For me the Pilla's came out top but i have good vision and do not need a prescription. I tried shooting with all of the different types of Pilla lenses and can honestly say that there is a lot of hype and marketing rubbish regarding some of the extra lens ranges that Pilla do.

What i find: Pilla lenses highlight the scene including the targets whether they be clays or any game flying or running. They make the colours stand out and are exceptionally clear. The popper system is fantastic as i change mine regularly during the day if the conditions dictate. I do not find them heavy.

I bought my set from Ed Lyons and have recommended him to many others already. I was really impressed with his knowledge, advice, service and very importantly, after service. .... and he is so quick to respond.

If you can afford them, they are the best in the business - but you only need 3 lenses. Just get about 20 - 25 between each one and you'll cover all conditions. I have the 15, 40 and 63 lenses off the top of my head and everyone i have shown them too are all very impressed.

My advice is to at least try them before you buy anything else.

Hotshot100 I think you may have missed my point. For people who have good eyesight I bet you could give them a cheap set of shooting glasses and it wouldn't make a jot of difference. Its like saying a £500 fishing rod will catch you more fish. (for those who don't fish, in general it won't)

Maybe not a massive difference but a difference. Better clarity- better definition- better results.

Lucky you. My normal prescription glasses cost a similar amount, but my shooting glasses cost a lot more. Sadly they only statement about style they make is "The wearer cares more about what they see than what you see."
