A very wise forum member once told me that to shoot OT you need wind in single figures and temp in double figures, I would never dare to contradict that statement !!!

The forecast for us tomorrow is 70 mile winds.......Yeeeeeee Heeeeeee

Hardcore shooting ....should make the double rise and UT at Owls exciting......bring it on....

Favourite topic of conversation for us Brits, the weather, and inspired by Lord Pewsey aka Father Tony (and Teepee) I just wondered what people thought....

Better to go shooting and do badly, or better to stay at home in the warm?

Do you mind wind, rain, cold, fog or bright sunshine?

And what if a big competition is on a day when the weather is not to your liking, how does that affect you?

Just wondered....

Jkc xx
Typically i dodge the bad weather as shooting is a hobby and to me hobbies are supposed to be fun..... i don't call getting soaked to the skin and blowing a gale making targets unfair fun. You'll never see me out practising  / shooting a standard registered event in those kinds of conditions.

However..... if a big shoot i have pre booked happens to drop unlucky and end up in these conditions then i will still shoot it and it won't bother me as its the same for all competitors. I have shot some fantastic scores in terrible weather and won some tough shoots. So i have every confidence i can perform in bad conditions if i have to - I just choose not to in most cases.

To me my ideal image of what i enjoy about shooting is..... warm sunny day, shorts, T shirt and trainers, with my shell pouch, then my shooting glasses and moulded ear plugs with a cap - go break some targets. Its days like these that are few and far between that give me a buzz and when i enjoy shooting the most.

I just don't get being cold and wet..... no fun......

As im pretty new to shooting I am shooting in whatever weather at the mo as its all good practise. Pretty sure that I will only shoot in nice weather when I have got to where I want to be.

Sealand tomorrow Paul, don't think i will bother on Sunday, save myself for ot next sun, my turn to drive i think.

Well tinker and andy how was double rise ?

I could not hit a barn door at 3 paces....!

We are not talking about it.....!

I am obviously not hardcore anymore....!

Well it is a long time since i shot trap with such a moving gun when i call pull....it was moving where ever the wind took it ....we were blown around a bit and pelted with rain....and i thought...being fat / heavy ...that it would be enough to be routed to the spot  FAIL.

A day to forget for me.....now will you stop talking about it.......I am still in recovery mode with a gin..!

Wont mention it ever again, if it makes you feel any better I shot cack today as well :)

Well thank you both, windy rainy dark just what you need for ot.

I think there is another reason to swerve bad weather. I notice that almost always, (especially the better shots) folk say that 'they shot badly' when the weather was crazy. So not only does it damage the average at a reg shoot, but it knocks confidence and can genuinely hurts the composure for next time..

Absolutely right clever, i find that i start to doubt myself and start tweaking things instead of accepting it was the weather and poor light not my technique so your spot on my friend.

Will get out there and don't be a pussy , I shoot in any weather and I can now even shoot with rain on my glasses , it makes for better concentration , you have to shoot a major if it is bad so use it as a practice session
