I think if our plod wore similar to guardia we would have less crime, them blokes scare the be Jesus out of me. I feel guilty of something every time i walk past one.

Nice beretta side arms too.

Ah ha Spanish Police.

Many years ago whilst on our way to Argentina we had a refuel and clean at Madrid before hopping over the Pond.

Had a skinful in duty free lounge  whilst we waited . Waited till the last minute to board and then went to the gate with a friend to be at the back of a 700 person queue, no problem straight to the front and explained we needed to board immediately and didn't need the scanner due to my pacemaker and Julian's plate in his leg. " No problem Seno'r wait there " . So we waited until all 700 boarded and then we were escorted to a little room where they set about us with riding crops, upon which I drew my south paw back ! The rifling in a 9mm Beretta is ever so good you know ! I have personally checked it out.

After a serious thrashing we were put on the Plane and told to behave and to tell our Engleez football hooligans friends what to expect.

I grew up in Spain, and indeed the police there are a mixed bunch. The Policia Municipal (the local town cops) are generally pleasant, while the Guardia Civil are hardcore; generally speaking, if you didn't want 7 shades of sh!t beaten out of you, you did as you were told, were polite, and moved along.  I remember when I came to the UK being rather shocked that the police didn't carry guns, and that you could chat to them - local bobby was one Martin Bayfield, nice guy, but he's not as menacing as a burly bloke with a CETME and a Beretta.

That said, personal anecdote: we were driving from Madrid down to the coast for a long weekend, 4 of us in the car, Mum driving. A little too fast. Guardia Civil pull us over (they have jurisdiction on the motorway) and come for a chat. Mum speaks Spanish with a slight English accent, so they start getting a touch aggressive.  At which she lets of a stream of vitriol which could only come from someone who knows the language and tells them to back down because they wouldn't talk like that to a man.  Huge smiles all around, an apology to her, commiserations to my dad, and an escort through a jam up the road!
