No, you are an "example of the fact guns are available to those who want them" I'm an example of  guns being availible to those who NEED them as part of their job/life...your sole purpose for gun ownership is for SPORT, clay or feathered, I on the other hand actually have a NEED for most of my guns, ranging from vermin control right through to putting a cow with a broken leg (bottom half spinning like a helicopter tail rotor) out of its missery A.S.A.P. !!! I take offence at your insinuation, even though I have very little respect for your opinion. I have no problem with holding/applying for a licence, what I do have a problem with is the "over the top" process and rules that are applyed to try and put people off of applying/renewing their licence!!!

Restricting the amount of rifle ammo you own or buy...bullsh*t

Having to apply for and justify sound moderators...bullsh*t

Resricting auto loading shotguns to 3 shot unless they are on a F.A.C...bullsh*t

The restrictions police try to add to gun licences...bullsh*t

Having to apply  every time you want to change rifle caliber...bullsh*t

I agree with you Darky. There is nothing worse than having to wait for the knackers van when you have an animal with its leg swinging around.....or in my case one of my horses still running after the car (drunk lunchtime driver) drive into the back leg when over taking. That is when the difference between sport and need comes in......that is where tools for the job are essential in a speedy fashion.

I also agree with the rest of your post. It is honest and many who have lived thought the handgun ban and the other farming restrictions would be using a lot heavier language......I can assure you all.

Sadly the difference in understanding between town and country.....sorry to say....but it is true.

Can one of you nice American or Canadian chaps, give me  a bit of a run down on the whole "Concealed / Open Carry" situation?
I have seen a couple of videos where they have made a big deal of Open Carry (why is it a big deal?) and I also saw a stupid video, that tried to suggest that Concealed Carry on some students in a college, would fail miserably.  An assailant entered a room, started firing shots and one or two "armed" students were set to take them down, but didn't make the grade.  I presume they found the least trained people they could, to prove their point!
Yet another video, shows an old guy in an internet cafe, drop to his knee and stop two armed robbers, no problems. 
 

With my limited knowledge, Nevada seems to have a good idea with the ownership arrangements, "peacecable journey" and all that...very low crime statistics from what I understand.  With the exception of Vegas, do many people live there (thereby making low stats less significant)?

Try not being able to buy any more than 40 and own 60...then having your renewal held up for a month while you explain that you shoot two different bullet weights in that caliber, you hand/home load and the bullets come in boxes of 100!!! Then they tell you that you can only buy 100 and posses 150 .22 rim at a time, even though you can show them you sometimes shoot 100+ rabbits in a night!?!? I would have argued with them over that one...but my licence had already expired and guns were in storage with a tame R.F.D at that point due to me having only applied for my renewal two months before it had ran out...

I'm sure the system isn't perfect and it seems in your case it's come up short. I can buy 500 rimfire rounds and possess 1000 so not sure why your force seems so unreasonable? These are essentially individual technicalities which for the most part can be overcome given time and effort.

That just about wraps it up in my opinion Hamid gun laws in blighty are what they are because in the past some loon has gone out and proved the ease of ownership of certain weapons in the wrong hands are fatal, a 1000 rounds of live round ammo is enough, three shot semi autos are enough for christ sake how long does it take to reload one! i live in the countryside and for one do not wish to listen to rambo shooting rabbits all night without a silencer fitted saves me coming out in the middle of the night to tell you what a naughty boy you are ( so called ard scots included) Coming from farming stock i can honestly say no one in my family has ever dispatched a cow and also having owned horses the same goes (thats a vets job in my eyes) This is obviously a very sensitive subject with everyone having opinions unique to there needs so perhaps it should be locked before it gets ugly just saying

You guys across the pond are al F'ed up with your ridiculous, kneejerk reaction firearm laws. We do not any longer have conecealed carry. But, I can CC in Vermont and many other US states. As long as New Hampshire renews my permit, I can CC or open (depending on the state) in some 46 or 48 states.

Meanwhile, I have shot pistol in New York state because the Aterney General thought Canadian Firearm laws were stiffer than NY! Bless his soul! Meanwhile in a knee raction by our politicians, I can shoot my rpohib handguns at at range but cannot shoot my RPK, FN or other converted autos. I can shoot and hunt with my Armalite (center,non-restricted):

Meanwhile, I also own some 40 military rifles, an assortment of shotguns and many more handguns. It is no different than my watch collection, just more usefull! Plus, they do better than any investment that I have ever done! On some of my recent sales, I made over 25 X cost!

I don't think there is a middle ground to be discovered.  The extremes do not appear to be amenable to any reason.  Responsible citizens should be respected and treated as such.  They are not children and should not be subject to the whim of officialdom or groups blathering along,  ill informed and misguided.  That is my perception of where all of you are now.

All of the gun control issues here are documented in thousands of internet pages.  I really have no  interest in rehashing any of that.  The current status, obviously, is that in the US the situation is less acute than the miserable one in GB.  You have let meager minds run your pols and be your pols longer than we have.  But we'll catch up and then we'll all be screwed together.

Hi Shaun, I agree, 1000 live rounds would be more than plenty, but the "standard" amount that Scottish police forces want to restrict you to are 50 to buy 100 to posses rimfire and 40 to buy 60 centerfire to posses unless you can prove to them you need more, then they might reconsider, which I think is bonkers. As for the three shot semi, there are some jobs where a 5 shot semi is can be needed, 5 quick shots with no time to reload, I have a mate who fired 7 shots from his 8 shot Benelli to kill 5 cubs and a vixen at a fox den (the lucky bugger) when the terriers flushed them. He's fed up having to justify having an extended mag every 5 years, his local F.L.O. doesn't approve!?!? As for the job of dispatching a wounded animal thats in pain, honestly, what's more humane, me going to the house for a .22 and ending its suffering in a few minutes of phoning a vet, waiting for them to arrive to end it's suffering, to put it into context, my vet is an hours drive from the farm and I am one of the designated marksmen for the vets practice, I.e. they phone me to dispatch large animals involved in road traffic collisions. I take absolutely no pleasure in dispatching wounded livestock, but it is a thing I must do from time to time, I wish I didn't. p.s. I was arguing for sound moderators, not against
