In 45 years of being a clay pigeon shooter I have seen lots of guys come into the sport and quite a few of then dissapear in a year or two spent out never to be seen again!

In an ideal world we would all shoot perazzi's, krieghoff's, berettas etc., but I would rather shoot a lanber than not shoot at all!

When I had a gun shop I was a Beretta main dealer and I sold lanbers as part of the beretta frachise, I cannot ever remember ribs comming off or stocks cracking or

bad blacking of the barrels! in fact I cannot remember ever returning one to Gunmark under complaint! for £500-£600 you ain't going to find any mirokus or berettas

thats sound and not screwed around with? There are just too many experts on here with no practical experience of the gun trade? :fie:
Well Cyril I cannot knock Lanber, I don't really recall even seeing very many to be honest about it. Did they make trap guns ?

Nothing wrong with a Lanber - but the fact the company went bankrupt might weigh into the decision to invest in one. There are other options.

There are lots of options out there in second hand guns - check out gunstar, guntrader, gunwatch, and see what is available in your area and price range.

:fie:  Its the know all non experienced "experts" on here that makes me Mr Grumpy :fie:

Along with the Browning Medallist the Lanber was one of very few new guns we used to see suffer break downs as in failure to fire. There were only a few guns around then such as the Nikko, Miroku, Baikal, Beretta, Browning, Laurona etc, so anything that broke stood out like a sore thumb.

The real point though is that for £600 quid you can get a Miroku so a Lanber would be like walking past a Rav4 to get to a Dacia Duster.

Whilst a applaud your longevity in the gun trade Shootinguru with respect I am not sure that gives you sole knowledge about what's good and what's bad  when It comes to buying a second hand shotgun

Nothing wrong with a lanber if your after a budget gun BUT I stand by what I stated earlier if you hunt around all avenues you will find a good used Miroku or an old good 686 beretta for around the £600 mark and IMO they are a better gun..

One of the critical things in a clay gun is a bit of weight (for all the reasons we so often discuss). I've never seen a cheap gun that weighs much. Almost the biggest issue for me..

Shaun, No it does not give me sole rights but I sold dozens of lanbers with no problems so why should I say anything bad about them? I agreethey are a buget gun but I would never compare them to a medalist which was crap! I agree that if the young man could find a reasonable Miroku for £600 then he should buy it.

HampsterI know a guy that still shoots a laurona with double triggers (back one can fire both barrels, it has crome barrels and is good as the day it was made! no its not a

pretty gun but it lasted 40 years or so.

My first gun :)  , either trigger fires both barrels one after the other and yes they are a solid buy for the money, in fact a single trigger 30" one would make as good a cheap starter as any.

I am not a huge fan of the Lanber, although i'm sure Shootinguru is right, ie they are pretty solid and will do a job. For me they just don't "feel" right. I suspect if you went to a gunshop and just try a Lanber/Bettinsoli/Lincoln et al, then pick up a Miroku/Browning or Beretta you'll feel the difference too.

My guess is that if you buy a Lanber, you'll like it well enough (they are fine as a casual shooters gun) but if you get to like the shooting you'll most likely sell it within the year.

Whereas if you stretch too good used or even new Grd 1 525 or MK38 for example, you would have a gun that will always be as good as 90% of shooters will ever need.

Also, from what I can see, unless you're "in the know" there's not a huge difference in price between a good used and new for these models.

If you don't have the cash right now, pop along to Allcocks in Stourport (or check out their website http://www.allcocksoutdoorstore.co.uk/firearms-shotguns/guns/shotguns   as they do interest free credit over 12 months.

It is interesting that the recurring message is if you only have 1 gun get a used or new Beretta, Browning or Miroku ?

The best you can afford but bear in mind you WILL change it within 12 months (probably) so buy locally that way you will have a relationship with your local dealer who will be happy to do a PX on your next one.
Rubbish, buy the right gun and you wont change it................ Used good quality guns hold value well and dont need alot of maintenance other than a good clean and a bit of lube parts for the Big 3 are cheap and plentiful.

Rubbish

do a poll on here and you will find that i am correct. Furthermore starting your post with an aggressive tone using the word rubbish is unnecessary, disagree with me by all means but have the decency to do it with respect.

Shall I hold your coat Ian? But you are right,a lot of people, including me, may have/had several guns in a short space of time when new to the sport. This seems to apply even if the first gun/guns are of a good make!
