I bought this new 725 and i think it has excessive play dealer says it normal ? should i ask that the gun be sent back to browning for repair as its brand new ?

It doesn't seem quite right, my grade 5 725 is tight and doesn't do that. I did pick up a new 30" in York guns when I was looking for mine and it was the same as yours, the forend was loose in the hand when you opened and closed it, it didn't feel right.  I would take it back to the dealer again.

Take the gun back and demand a refund then go to a proper gun dealer who knows what he is talking about. No iffs or butts.

it should not do that even with 150000 rounds through it

Take it back and say it is not of merchantable quality and you want a refund! The law is on your side.

Partexed a 10 month old silver pigeon a 3yr old Mk38 and a 2yr old Benelli similar auto plus £1200. I waiting on a reply to my email I sent the gun shop.

I will keep this thread updated as to the out come.

Did you actually take the gun back to demonstrate the problem?

That is not normal, and it's not acceptable.

It may well be worth asking them to confirm that they are a genuine authorised dealer.

I've not seen anything as bad as that. Is it a Pump gun?

Seriously though,  it looks like the back of the barrel hanger or the forend  has been filed away too much where the meet.

It has been known for dealers to take a file to them to make them a bit easier to open  when they come from the factory and are very, very stiff. Needs to be done very carefully though. Not by a blind man on a galloping horse.

I would think a glob of weld on the hanger filed to fit will fix it.

On an expensive new gun though.. No way would I have it. Replacement gun is the only way.

Heated phone exchange. WTF. That gun should never have left Browning like that, the dealer should never have sold it like that, and they are arguing with you, don't they want your repeat business. They should be bending over backwards to keep you happy. Name the dealer.

Reading the forum it always seems that when people have a problem with a gun they have to put up with the gun being sent off to dealer etc.  Surely this is not the case with the consumer rights act.  You have been sold something not fit for purpose by a shop.  If you want a refund or a new gun from the shop then that should be perfectly acceptable.  It's up to the shop to quibble with Browning until their hearts content.

not acceptable, as said.

how come you part-exed a silver pigeon, dealer value £800, and a mk38,also £800, and a auto, £450ish? and £1200, ? so it cost about £3200, for a 725? seems very high priced, to put it politely, unless its a grade 5,  which should be fault free,¬out the box¬,dodgy dealer i think.

Hi, yes It's a Grade 5 725 sporter.

I strongly believe that the dealer (I can't be alone in wondering who it is!) should be instantly offering a full refund. Either the whole deal "unwound" with your guns returned, cash returned, and all paperwork dealt with, or if he's sold the part-exchanged items then a refund at full rrp. An earlier post touched on the possibility of a dealer "adjustment". I have no idea if there's any way you could make contact with Browning, but it would be interesting to see if they actually receive the gun.

If you don't want to tell us who it came from then maybe let us know the town he's based in, or even a pm.

I feel for you. Sometimes it's bad luck; an item can slip through quality control unnoticed, and that's bad enough. But I get more and more suspicious in my old age, especially since being offered a gun last year that was obviously second hand - going to order one elsewhere and when it arrived it was the same one but supplied through a different RFD!.

Good luck in your quest. Don't accept anything less than a replacement or a full refund.

I am going to go against the grain here and say there is nothing wrong with the gun. For starters do you normally shoot with the barrels off the gun or the gun open ? Is there any play at all when you assemble and close the gun?  My XTR ultra has some play in the forend when the gun is taken down  BUT it is rock solid when assembled AND closed ready to shoot. I think you are being a bit paranoid to be honest what that video shows does not alarm me at all the gun is designed to shoot when closed as long as the forend is tight when closed you will be fine.

edit

Just had a word with another two XTR  owners who also confirm play at the forend when gun taken down but as with me rock solid when assembled and ready to shoot... seems to be normal for the gun. I would be worried if there was movement when the gun is assembled and ready to fire otherwise it meh from me.

I had a phone call from the shop, he watched the YouTube clip and he didn't know the play in the forend was so bad. I have had the 3 guns returned to me and a cheque for the balance.

I do feel for the shop because they have lost out on a deal because of an inferior product. And at the end of the day they have a Business to run and employees to pay.

You feel sorry for the dealer??  FFS.

he should have checked the bloody thing on arrival from his suppliers/before the sale to you for any problems.

when the fault , problem was found by you an immediate refund should have happened.

CUSTOMER SERVICE is key in any business.

Since the dealer made it right when some visual evidence was available it might be OK to mention the name as they did display some integrity.  Or was it still under duress?
