Just as the title what are the benefits of using these? A lot of top shooters seem to use them.

Stops distraction from either side of you , if you are prone to it of course, I myself use them particularly for ball trap when you are more likely to pick up movement in your peripheral vision due to your stance being canted to the middle mark

Never seen them in shops so will have to make some. Do the extend about an inch in front of the lenses ?

ISSF RULES

9.12.4 Side Blinders

Side blinders attached to the hat, cap, shooting glasses or to a
head band, not exceeding 60 mm in depth are permitted. Blinders
must not extend further forward than to a line from the center of
the forehead.

Example of one home made one from London 2012 - Michael Diamond.

John they have rules for everything mate! Now where is that toilet paper.................

Target shooters quite often use flaps that drop down on either side of the peak of their shooting hat in preference to side blinders.  The ISSF are probably moving against them as of course they don't let the cameras see you face.  The side flaps are more for obscuring light so that one gets a good view down the circular iron sights but one of these  might be useful for a trappie that doesn't want lateral distractions.  You'd get one from Fultons or the NSRA shop in the Lord Roberts centre at Bisley or somewhere like Edinkillie on line which is run by Donald Macintosh the GB small-bore rifle coach.

There is red and white one on this page  http://www.edinkilli...gear-c-1_6.html

Yrs I use them for target shooting Bobby

Yes, they are useful. Most cartridge manufactures supply them so no need to make them.

Would not need them if people kept still !

Just saying :)

Ok cheers mate will do! Where did you get them from Ian? I tried almost eveywhere, I found a few but they all had Perazzi plastered on the side and they cost about five quid, so I didn't bother!

Eley ones a few years ago when they sponsored a winter series at a6 never used em fiocchi ones from a pal of mine who knows / does business with fiocchi.

had a chat with your gun dealer chap today he showed me a very tasty chrome barrel trap gun. I loved it and its far from traditional.
In what was was it not tradional Ian? And I presume you mean chrome lined barrel? Not chrome on the outside surely???????
