And Gamebore this year - remembering that there was quite a high level of commitment to even be considered.

Good luck with your quest.... but certainly be eloquent, well presented, well behaved, score well, be consistent and make sure you have something to really offer back than space on your shooting vest.
Well that rules most out on here  - you forgot fit, good looking, smell nice - yes that rules most out on here.

So off the ball I bit are coaches more likely to be considered ?

because there are more likely to influence new shooters?

Yes, depending on how many customers you are dealing with. If you are just getting established in coaching then you will unlikely going the self employed route, so working through a ground on a drive and drabs basis most likely.

you might be able to do a full day a week to start which might be 5 lessons on a busy day. You need to be doing a lot of it before the coaching side really plays into your hands sponsorship wise.

I love the enthusiasm you have and the dream and I hope one day you do get sponsorship but let's have a bit of a reality check.  You've been shooting 4 yrs but haven't done any registered shoots yet let alone majors so what Class do you think you shoot at?  Ed has been shooting since he was just a pair of eyebrows and shoots at AAA level with major titles behind him.  He does embody a professional manner and is a good role model (mostly ?).  He is well known in the shooting world and sponsors obviously love all that.  There are many exceptional shooters out there but they don't have sponsorship of any kind so it's a tough club to get into.  Ed's level of coaching would help in some way but rarely will it help the many coaches that work to bring on the novices for example which in honesty would be the route you would probably take - instructor first followed by a coaching qualification in a particular discipline.  There's a lot of investment that an individual has to make in terms of money and commitment of time and dedication to reap the reward of a bit of sponsorship.  I'm not being mean just realistic but go for it.

Well said Sian.....you covered it very well.  :D

I still have a gunslip bought in 1986 from bamfords it still has a leather bamfords label on it. I remind Lawrence of this from time to time and consider this to be free advertising, he continues to give me a great deal on every gun (and there have been at least fifteen bought from him) is this a form of sponsorship ??
No Ian.......it's called repeat business!  So.....that's Bamfords going onto a list now then!

My shooting Buddy buys fifteen guns per YEAR from him, hence the big Merc. out front, now THAT is sponsorship !

Unless you start winning some biggies, say the worlds with 100 straight followed by the same at the BO,EO and probally a dozen others, Visa amd mastercard will be your only sponsors for a good few yers to come. Its a privilege for the very elite, your not a household name round here yet.

Cheers for all the info I do respect that about 1% of shooters are truly sponsored

I think I might have first write it wrong I am not exactly look for a sponsor just wanted to know is how this would be achieved

I not after being a instructor/coach as a full time job but want to help the clubs and people I shoot with good advised apposed to that know it all shooter at ever club has!

Yea I have found this out they is loads of dtl and abt up north but very few sporting !
Have you tried DTL & ABT ? If not give them a whirl - you might become 1 of us  ;)

If you are an "ordinary" shooter looking towards the future of when you get good at winning shoots? don't worry about "sponsorship" because shooting will be probably banned by then?

I'm only 2 years into shooting competitively and have managed to secure a few sponsor's.

A cartridge company, gun shop, chokes and another company all help out.

Most cartridge sponsorships are only a 10% - 20% discount and then you are stuck using only the the cartridges they offer you.

I am very lucky that Lyalvale Express offered me a very generous contract and I'm able to choose any of their compertition cartridges I choose.

All my sponsor's found me!

I won a good few major events and each time I recored them on a CV type document.

After winning my class at the Essex Masters, English Open, Beretta Worlds, Benelli SP'Auto, and was leading the Premier League  (ended up joint second and in a shoot off with Richard Faulds who beat me by 1) and many other events in my first year, Express emailed asking if I'd sent a CV with the possibility of joining their team.

It's not all about winning either!

It's your image,

How you dress

How you act

Are you polite

Do you loose your temper

Argue with ref's

Etc etc

They don't want someone who is a great shot that looks scruffy and causes a seen.

Sponsor's want someone out representing their brand professionally.

Phone the cartridge companies and speak to them! Ask what they look for and if they'd look at your cv.

Most of the sponsorships run from Jan / Feb so they'd have a year to follow your scores.

Also get your instructor to give a reference if you have one, even the ground owners or staff.

Everything will help.

Best of luck in the future

Can any body help with how to get a sponsorship from a cartridge company eg hull ,gamebore etc has or is anybody been and done some advise would be great

cheers dom
Different companies have different policies regarding sponsorship depending upon which discipline they are active in and it can vary from year to year. To even be in the reckoning you must be a 'big name' in your discipline, whatever category you shoot in. Remember too that sponsors are looking for a brand ambassador, not just someone capable of shooting big scores week in, week out.

Even then, it's often a case of who you know. If you can find a some of your disciplines 'big names' to give you a little positive promotion it'll help your application.

As others have rightly said, and despite what they may wish you to believe, very few receive free cartridges. Most are on subsidised deals and have to do a good deal of work to get it.

Eley used to sponsor me a few years back. If you PM me I'll gladly give you a few tips.
