the other thing to think about is comparing sporting and trap is like comparing F1 to drag racing. ie put a F1 driver in a dragster and within a few runs he would be competitive but the other way round he would still be nowhere is 12 months time.

Trapshooters: Like footballers that can only take penalties.

Its only the close ones that are catching me . Anything more than 30 feet away is simples :p

You are totally missing the point. To use your own examle . You wouldnt put an F1 driver in a drag race with an F1 car because he would be anialated.  And you wouldnt put an drag racer in a drag racing car on the monaco circuit again because he wouldnt stand a chance in that car . (Would be funny though :p   )

In the same way you wouldnt have someone using a skeet gun on ball trap or a trap gun on skeet .

Why would i choose to use a gun designed to keep the pattern together and hit far away targets on targets that are 15 yrds from me  . Thats why i was asking about putting on multi choke barrels .

Shooting the same targets with a beretta 690 sporting i can destroy the same targets that are very difficult to hit with my miroku trap gun . Yes its still possible to git them but its harder .

Tools for the job.

I think chippy assumes the driver would be in the right car. It's skill set he's on about..

So is your plan to use more open chokes for sporting or choke fiddle between stands? Most common choke setup for sporting is probably 1/4 and 1/2 which is only two constrictions away from what you have now. I ran 1/2 and 1/2 for ages to remove the desire to switch between barrels. Currently running 3/8 and 1/2. Many of the top shots are running tight chokes I believe. So if you are hitting 80% + already ( assuming you mean in competition and not practice etc) then not sure why you would want to open up.

I have twice had it proved to me that tight chokes do not harm your ability to shoot Sporting targets.

I was shooting Sportrap at Orston with my gun which was multichoke with two quarters in it. During a break we were discussing chokes and their effect and what a minefield the choke syndrome was with sizes and makes all making up the variables.

One of the assembly said he would lend me a gun to try for my next round but wouldn't tell me its choking. I shot a slightly better score with it than my own gun. The gun was a trap gun that I could see more rib on than my own gun and it was choked 3/4 and full.

On another occasion while shooting sporting at Grimsthorpe when choke was being discussed I shot a stand with a borrowed gun and shot very well with it. It too was a trap gun with chokes 3/4 and full. At that point I finally lost interest in financing the choke makers next Range Rover and stuck with 1/2 and 1/2.

Vic.
