22/11 Horne Church Farm today.

What a lovely morning. Cold, but clear sky and bright sun so it was actually a nice day.

A personal best of 86 contributed to a good day too!

Probably my last C registered score. Unless I can squeeze a couple of sandbagging sessions in within the next two weeks! :)

spoke to someone who had just done Southdown, didn't have a good day but at least there were very few NB's.

Not good enough. Nick Portlock 96. He just doesn't have silly misses..
Also went to Owls, not my finest hour /two , have spoke to Chipper since and he's still kicking himself for a "silly lost pair" hats off though to both Chipper and his big mate Lee Newman for their 96 and sharing high gun

well done for that PB, only a few weeks left as your in C and in that sort of form get scouring the web and keep shooting!!

Not a great day on the sporting layout at Southdown in the nice weather, only scored 60.  No excuses, I'm finding it hard to concentrate at the moment and not putting any plan or thought before I go in to a stand.  First thing tomorrow I'm on the phone to EJ Churchills to book 2 rounds of registered practice next Saturday.

The sportrap was a bit better, finished on 80 which is my highest ever score so not all bad.

shot grange farm today  perfect conditions  and a very nice mix of targets  ,  I  misread two stands  and finished on 77/100  not great   but  thoroughly  enjoyed it .  ben husthwaite 98/ 100        I rest my case .  !

New ground for me today heard a lot about it but never shot it before

Ashley nr Tiverton in Devon fibre wads only which makes sense as it's

in a stunning very steep valley I pictured myself stood on the peg with

70 yard pheasants screeming overhead but that's another story !!

good variety of targets angles and speeds etc

nice food wagon with good fairly priced fare

very pleased with 95 high gun four targets clear

well worth a visit

I shot with Dan and other mates at Southdown. I was super-awful! Worst score in years. I was quite ill today, so I'm hoping Sunday was some form of onset of this, which would be a nice excuse. ?

Some challenging stands at AGL today. I tripped up badly on three, including the driven which I usually love. Good day out, good company. Lots of bigger names turning up here now; an event gathering good momentum.

Ed Solomons HG on 94 I gather. Lots of decent shots (and me) shaking their heads hitting high 80's after tripping up.

8 away on first three stands to finish on 90 is a win in terms of mentally not giving up.  B)

Nice to meet you today also pete well shot

orston for me today  perfect weather  77/100   miss read a couple of stands  ,  once again should have been mid 80s  really  !

Westonwood for me, very mild.  69/100 not bad considering I got 1/8 on one of the stands ?.  Then on to Four Counties for 50 birder, was a bit disappointed with my 32/50  - could have done better.  A good day.

Well done, Sian!

I'm going to guess that the stand you struggled with was the over head driven (from behind) followed by the right to left crosser? I managed a whopping 2 on that stand; I also pruned the tree a bit for Steve ha ha!

Horne this afternoon. My first Reg in B class ...... best left there. Very quiet in the drizzle, most stands empty as I walked up. Straighted 4 stands but completely ( 1, 3 and 4 ) bolloxed a couple of others. Not an auspicious start!

However I'll hijack the pure sporting thread a little.

Started the morning off at Polowood.

How did this gem of a shoot go unnoticed?

We started the day with just 3 of us shooting. 3 25 bird compact sporting layouts all to ourselves.

Nice facilities, even decent toilets, little clubhouse with complimentary coffee. Lawn everywhere, tables, chairs and decent gun stands.

By about 10:30 another few people had joined us but if there were 10 people all morning I'd be surprised!

2 softer layouts. Certainly not gimmes. A rabbit on layout 2 had been arranged to duck into a shallow trench so only half the target was visible. A decent challenge. A couple of fast crossers on layout 3, overhead and one slow enough to be really deceptive.

Then layout 1. This one sorted out the men from the boys ( and I landed in the boys camp! ) a looper that, had the weather not cleared a little would have been in cloud, deceptive again as we all over-led it drastically initially. A fast L/R bird along a winter tree line, difficult to see until it got into a bit of clear sky. A fast away bird that should have been simple. Should have!

Clever target setting, very friendly bunch of people. They have 30 or so traps at their disposal so plenty of variety.

The downside? You either park up in the farmyard and they give you a lift up to the layout or you own a REAL 4*4 and you aren't scared to get it muddy. ( Suggest you call ahead on the mobile number on their site ) You can walk up, probably 15 mins carrying all your shells, gun etc and the track is grim at the moment. That's the only drawback.

They will arrange summer bbq's etc.

Shoots every 2 weeks on Sunday, next one on the 20th.

It's definitely going in my calendar to revisit!

Do they have website?  If not do you have address?

Yes it was.  I got one overhead and completely misread the birds - so annoyed with myself.

The overhead was best tackled early. Gun hold almost vertical, then quickly get a foot under it before it became an "away". The second bird just needed a reasonable bit of lead (about 5 or 6 feet as I see it) but also a line that recognised it was looping over, so 20 degrees downward as I pulled away. Might be gibberish to some, but it's how it saw it.
