Shooting UT at Mirande today and to be honest did not bad with 19,20 and 21 but it could and should have been better, did not shot the fourth round because I just lost it with the microphone setup!

When I shoot UT I setup standing almost centre of the square for all pegs and the microphones were not picking me up at all well, I was having to call for targets three or four times getting louder each time! I was then told to stand nearer the microphone to which I say GTF I am not changing my set up because your microphones ai'nt working.. I was actually being told it was my fault because I was A. not shouting loud enough and B. standing too far away from the microphone ??!! Is there a rule you have to stand at the front of the square? At my club even talking can release the target I was calling the target a lot louder than that level and getting nothing. It is going to be interesting because I will be shooting there next month in a competition!

No rule that I know of , these things happen often with rubbish mics etc nothing to be done but change your call I am afraid. Its all part of the wonderful world of trap mate.

Just shoot over the mic with first shot to release clay, then hit it with top barrel. You'll look really cool if it works :)

I notice a lot of grounds (including my local Bisley) plug the mics in but don't clip the clasp across to fully make the plug connection, which does impact the reliability somewhat. Regardless of ground I now check their all done up before every time my squad goes on line.

I think the problem here is that they recently encased their mics in a length of 8 inch drain fitted with a screw on stop so at the end of they day they just refit the cap... unfortunately they made them a bit low I think I am about three feet above the top of the mic.

Just try a loud Grunt   Uuuhhhhhhhh   It works for a lot of trap shooters....
Ha Ha yes. It's ok for sporting shots to call "Pull" in a normally projected voice. Some Trap shooters may sound like they're grunting, some are very quiet, etc, because it's probably because they are trying to keep their barrels still until they see the target clearly. Being a pre mounted discipline, for some people calling "Pull" and the associated chest movement can create undesirable movement of the barrels.

I was going to say that. I just don't see the need to be shouting to make the release work. Calling at just above normal talking should be fine.

Difficult to argue with that but over sensitive mic's can be a PITA as well.  I have never come to terms with mic's right in the center of the mark.  It seems as tho I constantly have to dodge them with the barrels closing the gun.  Really REALLY distracting.  I can appreciate wanting to get back a bit and avoid that but the unfortunate fact is that you disadvantage yourself by doing that.

I'm a very simple person and do not accommodate frustration well so I try to build habits that are difficult to knock pieces out of and piss me off.  You may just have to build a different habit ref how you position yourself relative to the mic and if you do try to make it as universal a habit as possible.

or just take to screaming - that will be so annoying to the other shooters that maybe the management will turn up the mic's   :spiteful:

There is a young woman here that is a screamer and I have been on the verge of just shooting her a couple times so now I just avoid her like the plague.  I'm talking IRRITATING!!!!  Might work for you too

Charlie

Difficult one Charlie because this is the only club I have had any difficulty releasing the targets. I definitely think they have set the mics too low down when the put them in the water proof pipe consequently I am about three feet above the mic and about two feet back from it, I was told that they were on max sensitivity as well never had an issue before because they were on a stand. I know what you are saying re too sensitive a ground I shoot at sometimes have the mics too sensitive and putting the empties in the bin sets the target release... very annoying when you have the man who simply has to throw his in the bin very forcefully to show how well he is shooting ... or how badly :)

John -

Sounds like you're SOL  :fie:

Build a new habit, my man.  If it's working for everyone else and already max'ed you have two options - step up or shoot some place else.

Sometimes the cost of being a gentleman is accommodating the rude masses

just sayin'

Just reluctant to do that Charlie I have a set up that I really feel is working well for me and my scores are improving! I shoot at two other clubs where I have no problem at all getting the targets released from my standing position using a very much quieter call. This is not happening on all the stations and I was having to call up to four times increasing my shout each time to eventually getting the target away on those stations! I find that very odd, I never had this problem before they changed the mic set up. I don't know all the ins and outs of trap shooting but I do know you can stand anywhere you want in the station when shooting surely that onus is on the club to make sure they have a system that allows this to happen. They run FFBT registered competitions at this club their equipment must reach the standard set by the FFBT ? I know of people who move to the right and left of the centre of the station on different stations I think the effect could be very much the same for them. I also have a very upright stance... the French shooters are in the habit of crouching when shooting.

edit

Charlie the photo in your avatar the mic is at the height of you knee and housed in a pipe I think they have compromised the set up to be honest

this is normal trap stuff, it happens a lot as in all things in trap one has to be able to adapt to adverse conditions, mic problems and slow pulls are two of many.

Just have to see how it goes next time out there.. never had a problem before though !?
