a laurona couldn't tell you the model but the proof marks are 1957

Try one of those leather slip on recoil pads, it may be that the stock is a bit short. I have put 32 gram 5 and6's through my Westley and that only weighs 6lbs 2 ozs. BUT it has been fitted by the makers.
it came with what I guess was the original rubber recoil pad because it was natural rubber and was rock hard.

I know a gun maker who a good friend of mine does some work for he is a tool maker/engineer so I had the stock extended with a lovely piece of walnut that he had laying about, it doesn't match because its a lot darker than the original piece of broom handle on the gun but contrasts really well and looks good and only cost me a few pints of beer.

so it fits pretty well now, but it was short your right and i'm comparing it to my o/u which is a lot heavier

I am game shooting in 2 weeks time and I will be using my Westley.with 28 gram 6's.  Merseyside/ Lancs borders are not renowned for their hills ! I have not shot the gun in over 2 years so it should be entertaining. 2 triggers and an auto safe, BUT I have yet to be caught out by that,  in over 40 years of using the gun. I tend to use 28 grams in the old girl nowadays, that way she will see me out.

Mine has a hard butt plate and is a little short but I adjust my stance to the gun and just keep it firm on my shoulder.

I must try and find out how old it is.

Just checked the proof marks and it is H1 which I think is 1962. Older than I thought.

the H1 i have highlighted is the proof date mark I believe

the others you refer to are something to do with the proof house and pressure it was tested to

H1 would make it 1962

1962 was my thought as well. So far it has been faultless. The wood is a little matt and in need of a good oiling and polish. It has clean bores and is very tight. Not bad for the price.

Perhaps its just the contrarian in me, but I take great delight in shooting something the "Experts" class as unsuitable!

If I can get half respectable scores, even better. :D

My pride and joy,  made in 1927, bought by me in 1979, fitted by Westley Richards in 1981. It has accounted for more Game than I care to recall, although I can still recall an awful lot of memorable shots, including the infamous Right and Left at Woodcock.

That is a lovely looking gun. Must admit I like using older guns. I have a 1963 R1100 I use for skeet and some sporting.

wow, Westley your in the woodcock club then. You got the pin feathers I assume. ??
