I wonder if the police would divulge where the 'specific intelligence' came from, and what it entailed?  Definitely not would be my guess, and yet we are expected to let them in despite this?

That is the only problem that I have with this. :vinsent:

Well this is area i can tell you about.....and they certainly do not tell have to you. If they have special or specific intelligence they will come to you with a court order, they then 'can' enter and seize guns (give a receipt) and tell you absolutely nothing about why they have taken them. You are then left to wait for contact from them and to see what happens next. Even when preparing for court ...and depending on the type of intel...they still do not have to disclose where the info comes from or what it is about. Intel is a very very strange subject.

And before anyone says booohoolocks.....We have had two of these recently....which did not end well.

Keep clean peeps and then you have nothing to worry about.

"A modern man"................one can hardly contemplate what that may mean in your case Ian !!!
The Early Modern period started after the Middle Ages. Historians think the Modern period started in the 16th century.

Flippin eck Liz........so are you saying that in some way Ian could be a 16th century throwback or something? I know he lives in a remote kinda place and has no mains sewage, no gas, no electric and still draws water from the well, but my word......16th century!

I would never label Ian, but if he would like to claim the identity that is entirely up to him :)

Liz ......well it seems he has already claimed identity by his "modern man" statement!!

He was trying to pay his entry at Southern Counties in Groats.

That didn't work so he swapped them four geese and two hens per round.  :prankster:

16th century you say, um sounds about right for me. Cant be doing with modern era would much prefer travel by horse and a hog roast. Oh and a steam powered computamajig of course.

Les your right on most counts.

gas - no

sewage - no

water - yes but very very low pressure

elec -mostly but not at all reliable

Sounds like a 16th century existence doesn't it :)

DON'T PANIC CAPTAIN MAINWARING, DON'T PANIC..................... If they are unable to attend a report of a burglary, i do not envisage too many 'random' checks. Me thinks this is all a bit political and this has been a press release to appease the masses. Let us NOT forget, the powers to drop in unanounced have  ALWAYS been there. On the one occasion in the past God knows how many years that I had an unanounced visit, I was asked to account for having my bolt action .410 shotgun and not having a Firearms Certificate   :fie:

Imagine the scene at my place on my renewal visit several years ago.

Ten gun cabinet with six stored in the door as it opens and four at the back on the left hand side. The right hand side consists of two locking compartments with shelving underneath. This is one "big mother" of a cabinet. The shelves are stacked with the oddities of cartridges I have in .410, 20g, 16g and some posh 12's.

As I pass each gun out for checking serial numbers, (and I start with the 12 bores) I am asked on each occasion where the "bullets" are stored for this'n (he was a bit yokel in his accent). I point to the slabs of 250 stacked next to the cabinet but within the gun cupboard. When we get to the smaller gauges he asks the same question on the "bullet" storage so I point to the assortment of boxes on the shelves within the cabinet. "No No No" he says, we can't have boxes of ammunition stored in with the guns as it makes it easily accessible to a burglar to put the two together. So he made me promise to take them from inside the double locked cabinet and store them loose on top of the 2000+ I had sitting alongside, but within the secure and alarmed cupboard.

When I said that it would be just as easy to access them there he said that if they only broke into the cabinet they would not get any ammunition. I kept my gob shut trying to reason how that would be, but accepting his superior knowledge.

I also had the Firearms query over my Webley .410 bolt action as "it must be a rifle because it has a bolt and is a small barrel"

I would love to be a firearms enquiry officer but it seems they only take on those that don't know anything about firearms. Sod's law??  :fie:
