To many favourites to remember. Can you imagine a red bull air race with planes in F1 livery

This just prompted a memory of something my Dad used to say that during the war you could tell if your plane had a Rolls Royce British built Merlin engine or one built in America under licence by Packard as part of their contribution to the war effort, as soon as you started up the engine!  V12 - 27 litres and what a sound as anyone who has ever heard a Spitfire or Hurricane can verify.
