Stick with foam earplugs, I've been shooting 21 years and never wasted my money on overpriced ears protection, buy a box off eBay with 200 pairs for £7 and they'll last forever! 
that's fine for some but I get ear infections easily, so can't wear in ear protection. Don't believe they give the same level of sound protection either and cans keep your ears warm in the winter....

You are right about increased protection as a lot of sound gets in through behind the ear...would love to use them just my ears seem to be to low on my head!  :lol:

 
I use Howard Leight electronic muffs.  Work great IMO.  Got 'em off ebay for a way fine discount.  Molded plugs are fine too but recent prices increases for no reason have made them just stupid expensive for what they are.  Never cared for the foam personally and got away from it as soon as I knew better.
