Actually Son got one with his 692 last year, still haven't worked it out, but as mentioned I think its to protect the barrels whilst on display?

I got one with my SP1, it is, i believe for display purposes but an alternative is, if you have a six year old son, ideal ornamentation for his toy six shooter. He was desperate to have it from the moment he saw it!
