....so far this season ?

I have had one formal driven day.

Three days loading.

Three days beating.

Many days dogging in.

And had first day on syndicate shoot.

Unfortunately my back is playing up yet again which is poor timing as i could be out four times a week with the offers i have on the table.. grr

So far just a bit of practice as my first proper day isn't until Nov 15.

But I have a week of serious fishing to do before then.....so shooting is on the back burner, temporarily.

Sounds like we are all injured -  I have a dodgy shoulder to go with your bad back !.

I always seem to have some bit of me that is broken....i sympathize with you as one of my many ailments is a dodgy shoulder however that bit of me is ok at the moment.

So whats your day on 15th , were, bag etc etc

Was lucky enough to go out to Spain and shoot partridges over some pointers a couple weeks back. Only a bag of 4 but it was great sport and lovely weather.

On Saturday I'm going to Bodfuan where I'm sharing a peg with a friend. That's it for whats arranged so far! I'd love to have some Saturday loading work but not found any as yet.

As I spent my spare time as a guide on big game, fall is all about hunting for me. In the spring/summer got 2 boars and 5 roebucks with clients. Now the red deer rut is over - got 19 stags with clients, we are onto culling non-trophy heads, getting ready for some driven hunts...if time permits should do walked upon pheasants and an odd evening duck flight...

Mid/North Wales -  small, high bird shoot nr Llanarmon.

Quality rather than quantity. Estimated bag 100 -120.

It gets really serious after that -  mid Wales for quality AND quantity at the end of the month.

Shoulder needs to be better by then !

I’ve had 2  130 bird  mixed  driven days . My return to live quarry after 30 odd years . They were bought days , so I can gauge whether I’m enthusiastic enough to look for a syndicate . I really enjoyed both days .  I also met  some very nice peoples . The  only downside  of buying a peg with unknown company  , was I held back for what I thought were challenging birds , whereas some were not so selective .

On my first day I was lucky enough to be accompanied by a friend who works on a very prestigious estate , and is very pheasant savvy . She “stuffed “ for me and kept me right on etiquette etc 😇

I had a couple of very successful drives , one included a  “3 for 3 “ snap shooting partridges that came over the woods before the pheasants . Fantastic fast little sporting birds .

I’m pleased with my progress , I’ve got one more 130 bird day booked mid December , and I’ve got an invite to flight some ducks later on in the year as well .  I might look for something else in between  .

1 Days driven partridge in September and confined to Barracks since then, with nothing on the horizon either. Just turned down what should be a nice day next Saturday  !   :???:

A few bits and pieces including some incredible walked up mixed species days which I enjoyed tremendously.

A couple of early season partridges days over hedges which I appreciated the invite to with great company but didn’t enjoy the shooting, it felt like a chicken cull.

A handful of cracking high bird days too, but they make people angry so I’ll keep quiet...

A couple of deer stalking outings necessitating in all sorts of purchasing of shiny things..

In addition to killing myself trying to run out syndicate locally...Never again!

  • Driven duck day in Somerset mid-September.
  • 5 syndicate days: one just partridge, the rest mixed partridge and pheasant.  Nice shoot with a good team and gamekeeper, and it's only up the road from me, 150 bird days so everyone gets some shooting.  The Shooting Gazette have done a piece on the shoot so watch out for the issue just before Xmas.
  • 5 days left on the syndicate between Saturday and the end of December.
  • Phil Moss day at Henry Arnold's in Kent mid-January.
  • Day at Badnocks mid-December.
  • Invite to a private shoot end of December.
  • Ducks at the end of January.

Interested in your driven duck day, how was it? I’ve done the odd duck drive but they have always felt like a way to get the bag up.. Flighting is a different experience though..

It was a good day, at the Buckland Shoot just outside of Taunton.

Four long drives, they weren't just getting up and circling they flew like proper driven birds, the terrain helped as well. First and second drives we were at the bottom of sloping hills with tall trees in front so they got up, then the third and fourth drive we were at the bottom of some even steeper slopes so they were 40-yards+ by the time we saw them.

You need a decent steel load though, I was using 36g 1s through half choke, some other shots were using 4s and 5s which weren't convincing.

Great, I’m glad some where is doing it well

I really don’t get results from steel,  Bigger Bismuth works well though
