I still get a great buzz from the first couple of days of the pheasant season.

Geese, near Aberdeen, at 5am on a freezing morning made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

Shooting grouse over English pointers was very exciting, but the most knackering form of shooting that I have ever done!

pigeon flight line,a real test and rough shooting with mates is always fun whatever quary apears.

Pigeon shooting for me. Cheap, good company (my dogs) and I get to shoot simulated partridge, pheasant, grouse, duck etc all by the flight of a single species.

But for pure nostalgia and enjoyment my blackpowder days take some beating, the noise and smoke swirling around conjures up memories of Hawker, Ripon & Walsingham.

For me, regardless of the quarry - it is the people and the day itself - bag size is not relevant, yes good challenging birds are important, but for me it is the day with the people - a great day of challenging birds with a rubbish host and dour people is not a good day to me, but a small day with plenty of otters is fantastic..

Absolutely spot on Phil.

On our shoots we are lucky to get 20 pheasants on one and on the other about 30.

However the comradeship, fluffy rabbits and great atmosphere make it a pleasure to partake.

(How can ban ter become fluffy rabbits??)

Roost shooting pigeons in high wind espessally if you bag a crow it makes for a brillient evening for me nothing beats it, decoying is good fun but only half as much as the roost shooting ! Then crow shooting then squirrel shooting. Nothing game shooting really lights my fuse, ducks are of most intrest but only because they are nice eating !
