It's someone local and obviously knows me, they probably also know I'm quite fiery

I was brought up in the day if you had something to say you said it to the persons face, then you either had beer together or sorted it out with your fists, off course these days you can't resolve things that way,

I've been in touch with Matt twice now and he has removed the posts, but says you can't get a real time address from an ip server,

It seems this guys first post under ( bronwyn) on 22-1-14 was deleted, and he joined again the same day as high pheasant

Both times posing a people I actually know and have spoken to. Even had a mates picture as his avatar of a fireman.

The mate concerned is not happy and has contacted admin and the police about it.

I'm angry and frustrated at the moment, don't know what I've done to upset anyone, it's quiet where I live, I don't go out to the pub anymore, just work 5 days a week (stonemason) shoot on the weekend, and look at the forum most nights rather than watch telly,

When the light gets better, a bit of fishing and dog training, simple really

But if your still bothered by it why not create another account on here which is anonymous.

That way you can pick and choose your friends and who you respond to or meet at a shoot with out being pestered.

To much personal infor on the web(face book, twitter , forums, etc) can easily give someone with a grudge the opportunity to behave this way.

They are cowardly arse holes.

Easily if you have the right resources but probably beyond the capabilities or time constraints of your average forum mod.

Getting the name of the person using the address at the point in time is not at all simple and entirely unpractical.  You can do a reverse DNS lookup very simply and find out who the address range is registered too, but for the vast majority of users that will be the Internet service provider, i.e. BT, Virgin, etc.  That will also give a location of where the POP is, but nothing more specific.

In some instances you may find out a block of addresses has been assigned to an individual or a company, but that really just isn't applicable to individuals.

Thereafter you would need to make a request to the ISP and ask them to identify from their logs which user account was assigned that IP address at that point in time and they will simply not give you that information without a court order.

If the user was using a proxy server or other such relay type solution then there is little to no chance of getting anything without a forensic level analysis.

Ashley, I'm new to the forums and don't think that I know you, but I'm in agreement with all the above, cyber bullies are just cowards hiding behind the scenes, so stay on the forums, don't let them/him/her win. By talking about it on these forums it lets them know what we all think of them and that it's obvious that anyone that knows you are think highly of you so keep it up and good work for the admin side of things, it's good to know these things can be sorted.

What GrrClark said... simply put, there are less IP addresses than there are devices connecting to the internet.   So addresses are dynamically added, you can have an address for a day, month, week depending how your ISP (BT, Virgin, AOL etc) work. 

Looking up someones address will tell you they use BT, in an area allocation. 

I can block addresses, but people can get round that by using their phone.

Keeping someone away just depends on them getting bored before me. 

I am very patient.

It can be a little frustrating if some clown has it in for you on the old tinternet. If you met them in real life the odds are they would run away with their tail between their legs :crazy: , bravery comes cheap on tinternet.
