Wood type ?

Picked up an old beretta a302 . The stock is in need of a refinish . It isn't obvious what wood type it is ? Am hoping is walnut ,does anybody know ?

Should be walnut mine was but a very plain grade

I have just sold a 300 semi auto, that had oiled wood when I bought it. I totally refurbished the gun, wood included, which came up very well with my homemade Alkanet root oil. I have stripped several varnished stocks, and oiled them, over the years. It is not difficult, just do NOT try and rush it.

The wood was Walnut.

yep oiling is the plan , but it seems plainer than a plain thing.
