Ok this is not a clay shooting topic, but it I think it comes under the General Shooting heading though, but Matt may wish to put it into another section. So if the Govt decided to take a vote on whether to allow the re introduction of full bore handguns, how would you guys vote? Would you be pro handgun or anti handgun? We all know why they were taken away and that it was nothing to do with reducing gun crime(if it was then it hasn't workled), so what do you guys think?

I am happily pro legal handguns for legitimate target competition use and by those necessary for use as humane animal mercy killers.

I am against their UK general ownership, self defence etc and there should be strict rules about their control and use as previously.

In any event one can still obtain properly licenced single shot or revolver type pistols but they now fall into the category of rifles as they have a combination of long barrels, rear balance rods or pistol grip extensions so that they no longer fall into the definition of pistols and a legal case was won long ago to this effect by the NSRA who were then able to import 3 different makes of long arm free .22 pistols so that we could compete in the Olympic 50 m pistol discipline.  Morini, Pardini and a Swiss make whose name I forget. Others have since followed in larger calibers.

With sensible restriction and regulation id be pro, but no interest to me.

Yep, I think I have seen some of those Robert! I must say though, that I still like the likes of the old S&W Mod 29 .44 mag. As far as I'm concerned it was/is a classic wheel gun. Yes I also think that strict controls should be in place, as they were before of course! :)

I have no wish to own a handgun, but I would vote "pro"...
I didn't either until after the 1997 pistol ban.  I took up air pistol shooting competitively and then saw long arm free.22 pistols in action at Bisley at 50 metres.  I had to have one to try and get bulls at 50 metres where the inner ten is not much bigger than a 50p piece.  It is extraordinarily difficult to shoot pistol well and I suspect is the shooting worlds competition most affected by nerves and the mind games of the brain.

What used to get to me was the breathing practice/training involved in small bore/air rifles rifles and pistols. With the heavy stuff it was rather a different story of course. Being able to tame a .44mag on the butts at a short range target, (which looks oh so easy when you watch the TV and films), is a thrill in itself. :)

We had sensible restriction and regulation prior to the ill conceived knee jerk ban.

I've never been a hang gun shooter but I'd definitely be pro.

Yes Les, it really was a knee jerk reaction and it has not reduced gun crime at all.

Obviously Pro.  I have very much enjoyed shooting LBR's when I used to shoot, .44 and once a .454 Casul (Oh My GOD...please, hit my hand with a bat).
I like he idea of them and lots of fun shooting a Glock and the old 1911...but not really a pistol shooter...unless it was Bowling Pins etc, practical pistol or something, but I think the novelty would wear off.
