Wylye will close at the end of September after our sporting shoot on the 29th. My landlord has decided that he no longer wants or needs a clay shoot on his farm and wants the place to himself and his wife. He is installing a huge solar farm - which may have some bearing on the matter.

So, thats it really. Thanks for all the support over the past twelve years. Its been emotional.

Sorry to hear this news Ian, had some good times down at Wylye in the past, me and Hazel will come and see you and Val as many times as we can before the end of September.

That is the worst news!  Really sorry for you and Val, Ian.  Easily the best ground in the South for hedge monkeys.  So sad.

Good luck in your search for a new one!

Ian, are you taking the pi*s. After our brief meeting last Sunday and your comments about Shootclay needing some pot stirring, I really hope that this is what this post is all about. We had a fantastic time on Sunday and were planning our next visit even though we live in deepest Kent. I sincerely hope that this is a wind up as great grounds like Wylye are few and far between.

All I can say is what a great, great shame. Ian I hope you consider finding more land to shoot on and that pretty soon Wylye 2 will rise from the ashes.....MM

Oh no!!!! Ian I am gutted and really sorry for you and val, after the years of hard work.
Being one of the best grounds in the country it is going to be a huge loss to the sport and lots of shooters new and old are going to feel the void left by losing this excellent ground.

For me personally after all the support you have given me, to keep going with the sport I feel a personal loss. I will miss the family feel of your ground and not looking forward to shooting somewhere else.

See you soon mate.

Does your landlord want to sell?

Gutted!!!!!!!!!! :(

Sorry too hear this ian....this will be such a loss too my sunday mornings....hope you not giving up and will find some ground too put on some more great shoots....and whats everyone going to do for cake.!!!!!!!!..

See ya soon ian.

All the best mark

Terrible news Ian - sorry to hear that for you and Val, who I know put a lot of hard work into creating one of our favourite grounds.

And MadMillie - would like some background that that conversation please...

This is the worst news I have heard in a long time. This was an important ground for the South.....many champions were made here as well as other grounds. The targets were always a joy to shoot whether you hit them or not. Food was always great. It will be a very sad loss to the circuit.

Ian I wish you well and hope you turn up again at a new ground....but as you know they are hard to find.

What a sad loss, as someone who shot there when Cyril had the ground it is one of the best in southern Britain.....Many happy memories of long ago shoots.

Good luck in what you do next Ian

cheers mate Wynn

This is indeed very sad news. I hope you do find more land. Your shoots are always challenging but enjoyable and there are not many places where ladies can shoot for £15.

Ian.

Just a thought How about making the last shoot into one we remember, say a big send off for Wylye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Never shot the ground myself, but only heard good things about the quality of the clays and the ground's amenities in general - including the food and the warm welcome.

sh*tty news for you and Val, Ian. I do hope you consider another ground to take up residence, as you've gained a 12 year reputation of getting it right for Sporting shooters, and it would be tragic to see that go to waste.

Good luck mate.

What an absolute *******. Best ground in the south west by a mile, will miss it big time. Hope you get something sorted out Ian, am sure you will manage something.

Ed

I will make it down there before it closes.... had my first class in there (I think) - great memories of the ShootClay FITASC Day - and quite a few trips down to shoot in the sunshine.

Sad news.

WOW, is nowhere sacred  :fie:   Sad news indeed, we can do without grounds closing down full stop but top quality grounds like Wylye are very few and far between.

It makes one wonder if the whole of the south west is earmarked for solar farms
