Massive shame. I didn't get down that often but always really enjoyed the shoots at Wylye. Big loss for SW shooting

Never shot the ground myself, but only heard good things about the quality of the clays and the ground's amenities in general - including the food and the warm welcome.

sh*tty news for you and Val, Ian. I do hope you consider another ground to take up residence, as you've gained a 12 year reputation of getting it right for Sporting shooters, and it would be tragic to see that go to waste.

Good luck mate.
Ian,

I can only echo what Bren has said - I've never had the opportunity to shoot at your ground, but by all accounts a great loss to the sport as a whole.

I wish you and Val all the best for the future and echo those that hope you find somewhere else to set up.

Best wishes.

Phil

Terrible news. Wylye is probably my favourite ground. Excellent targets. I only wish I had made it down there more often. Ian and his team have always very encouraging to female shooters so thank you for that.

Ian, I really hope you are able to find somewhere suitable to carry on.

Ian, I am am so sad to hear your news....you should show your landlord all these comments and maybe he might understand how important a facility he was supporting.

Long way for us to come from the IOW but we didn't mind, the best breakfasts for miles around and the ccke to have on the ferry home was second to none....oh and as Sian mentioned great to wind the boys up getting to shoot for less than they did!!

A great ground that will be sadly missed....and a great team that ran it.

The 29th September should be one big get together too say thanks to ian, val and gang...start baking val as I have a funny feeling the A303 at wylye will be blocked with shootclay members and clayshooters from far a field all ready to give wylye one big thankyou !!!! I will be there....still hard to believe your closing..

What a basteward !!!!    So sorry to hear this news for you and Val, Ian. Lots of great memories for this ground I shot one of my first fitasc shoots there with Cyril and made a lot of friends with him and yourself when you took over  great times good shoots lots of fun and laughs and made the effort to drive over to shoot with you always a pleasure , will be greatly missed , I hope that you are thinking of carrying on and find another piece of ground to carry on giving us great sport and competition. I will be down to shoot with you before the deadline and if you are planning a final shoot I will definitely be down to say thank you and go out with a bloody big send off. !!!

Many thanks to you and Val for all the great food and challenging shoots you have put on over the years :goodjob:

:goodjob:  Lets hope the saying you can't keep a good man down proves true.

I can only Agree with all the comments!! We have to travel a long way from Pembrokeshire to shoot in England, but this trip to wylye was never a burden. I've always said it and will say it again, I would put this in my top 5 shooting grounds. Not only is the shoot itself very good, but the scorers are always polite, the lads filling the traps, will always acknowledge you, and those bloody 3 beauties in that kitchen are fantastic. This is the worst news I have heard for a while!!!!! Ian I hope you are taking the piss mate you have been a great " mine host"

Thanks for all the kind words. If I knew how much you enjoyed it I would have put the price up!

Finding another ground is proving to be very difficult, especially in Wiltshire. The farms and estates locally are making a lot of money or have game shoots on them and find the prospects of a few thousand pounds from a clay shoot not the least bit attractive. But we persevere.

Many thanks again for the comments.

Being an OT shooter I never visited, however I am really sorry to hear of the closure! We need more grounds, not less, this is another nail in the coffin of shooting I'm afraid!

Aye, as a Tarp shooter I never visited Wylye, but I have never read a bad word about the ground, but read many good comments. This loss will be a huge blow for the Hedge Monkeys who loved to shoot there.

Let's hope Wylye2 will rise from the ashes, we desperately need grounds like this.

A real bum rap for the owners and staff after 12 years hard work.

And the cake! And the breakfast!

Sad news. If Ian can re establish 15-30 miles east, it will be incredible. A big empty area for SG's.

Nooooooooo not east, more to the west, Ian, in Zummerzet, where the cider apples grow and where you live!

Gutted to hear about you being given notice, all the best with finding a new ground!
