Re. Beverly

yes i have heard same story not sure what the pay back will be for such an investment.

I first shot there in 87 and club house was shall we say tired even then. Have to say though that current ground owner / manager whatever is putting a lot of hard work into improving one of our best trap grounds.

Re the wyle closure, what to say other than what a shame yet another ground gone.

As the person who brought Wylye Valley Shooting Ground to life back in the early 90's I feel very sad! it has been a fantastic ground considering the small acreage.

When we started there was a silage pit where the car park is now, there was still a herd of friesien milking cows there and sometimes it meant we had to stop shooting when they came in for milking! but things changed.

I have been out of Wylye S.G. for 12 years, I still miss the Wessex Fitasc G.Prix and the fitasc shooters who patronized it and all the monthly Fitasc shoots.

I am afraid sporting and Fitasc shooting in the South West is on a downward slope with the demise of Wylye, Newnham Park, Southern Counties is a mere shell of what it was 25 years ago ! Is Podimore safe?

I have had 45+ years as a clay shooter and I am certain that I have had the best of it as shooters are now treated as a larger lout with a shotgun.

I am sorry Ian that Wylye is no more and its going to be almost impossible to find another ground in the locality but best of luck in looking. Cyril Jeffery.
Siiiiiyyyyrrreeeeeeeel ....you are back...!

Had enough of the cretins ???

Did you bring the donkey????

Yes Wylye was a good ground under both you and the Viscount....it is a crying shame that it is going.

Absolutely Gutted ! ! !     although we only manage to visit perhaps once a year we always looked forward to the thoughtful and well planned

targets you presented plus the fun one's like the trampoline.Hope something else comes along for you to keep your regulars happy and for

somewhere we can look forward to visiting on our pilgrimage to the South West - - - -my commiserations to you and your more local

shooters.

Beverly?....Is that was what used to be East Yorkshire Gun Club Ian?

I have been thinking about the "solar"farm, to the best of my knowlege the bank at Wylye faces west/north/west! the sun comes up in the east(behind the bank) and sets facing the bank? not very effecient for photo vocaic generation! also there is a game shoot on the said property can you imagine a 120 foot high pheasant being dropped onto solar panels plus all the spent game shot! the solar firm is not going to wear that!

I read the great International coach's report on the other shooting website and he mentions a very rich woman andher greed? I can guess the rest.

Hi Guru

Not Photovoltaic‘s panels anymore UV light panels, the panels are to be placed on the lawn side i would have though which is south facing.

the problem here is the tariffs and subsidies are just to attractive to the landowner, money for nothing and a profit share difficult to argue with!

What we need to find is someone like Jewson's who is buying forests for carbon offset, who does not mind having a clay ground on their land.
