Hi all,

I am looking for recommendations for mid week sporting grounds (practice days) in Yorkshire - within 40 mile radius of Rotherham to be exact so bordering counties are fine as well.

I have found some on google but most had sketchy details (big shoot, air gun ranges, no details, etc).

I am new to the area and trying to get my bearings for mid-week shooting.

Hello 👋🏼 fellow Rotherhamer 😂 Cockett Farm (35 miles) or Blyton Shooting Ground (34 miles) would be my go to if I was you. As Martyn says there is also Park Lodge but it’s not my cup of tea but I wouldn’t say don’t go if you haven’t been. Also if you ever want a fantastic day out that is admittedly double the mileage please try Grimsthorpe Shooting Ground 👍🏼

It’s not my cup of tea either :ROFLMAO: Expensive , flat , windy , but it has some big towers , and good pies and sausage rolls . Today I wanted a quick knock about to sort out a problem plus try some things . My go to Kelbrook , Thimbleby , Churchills are all that bit further , I did Emley to Park Lodge in about 40 minutes . So paid more for clays , saved a gallon of Diesel, and had the aforementioned sausage filled pastry !

Just had a great day at Orston! lots of targets to shoot and a decent breakfast. An hour or so from Rotherham!

Try northern clay target centre, Rufforth ,York. Great practice day every Wednesday

Many thanks to all, I will try all of those.

I started with Park Lodge last week and had an enjoyable afternoon. The right hand side of the ground has targets that did not interest me (dare I say too easy as they are close) but the tower set up was excellent and the two sport trap layouts good as well as the sporting targets at the back left corner. The Cornish pasties were first rate and the gun shop well stocked.

Thimbleby is a great set up.

Kellbrook is good too but whilst mileage may be within your target travel it can be quite a drive time wise because of the roads.

Orston is a great ground with Skeet, DTL, good sporting and the game arena.

Humberside is a decent ground too with most set ups having multiple traps and stands to constantly change it up with towers too.

If you fancy a bit of trap shooting try Beverley. All four trap disciplines are available and its a very good set up , good price structure too. They also have some good sports trap stands on

Also EG Churchill at Swinton estate Masham.
Marne clay shoot at Marne Barracks, usually shoot on Wednesday and Sunday every other week. Check website for details.
Hazelbank clay ground at Knaresbrough.

Visited Blyton on Saturday. Really liked it, no frills but what a great set of sporting targets especially the water stuff. I will definitely be revisiting this one.

Just visited Cockets Farm SG, another great experience. Especially good were the 3 sport trap layouts, I thought.

I must say, so far, I am very impressed with the quality of grounds in the area as well as the quantity. Still have a bunch more that you’ve recommended.

There’s a nice diner just down the road called Limes Cafe they do some good food. We normally stop off there on the way to Cockett or on the way home.

They have a good selection of cartridges available at really competitive prices too for next time you go.
