I posted the other day about whether I needed a dedicated Trap gun to shoot ABT... answer yes! I have started looking about for a gun and guess what? shotguns are bloody expensive in France! I have found a web site that is for Guns sales. Its a bit like an ebay for guns. Some very nice looking guns on the site from many manufaturers prices still high but better than new. I spotted a Kreighoff model 32 for €3000, about £2500. The gun looks nice in the photos but I realise this is probably a very old gun so could be worn out. I could go out to have a look at it though it not too far away, make a nice run out on the bike   What are the chances of the gun being worth while, it does not have any guarantee. Heres a link to the gun, what do you think anybody?

Asked on your other thread where you are in France?

Looks ok in pic certainly very cheap. Personally i would go for a flatter rib but thats just me. You dont see very many k users on the trap circuit but very popular for dtl boys. If it was me i would go beretta but go and have a look at least you will have a comparison and not may see something else while not are there.

Sorry Nicola I live down near Pau.
You lucky thing.....not that far from San Sebastián (Spain) and the ground at Eibar.

I was thinking of my pals helping you with gun shop visits ....but they are in the north.

Hi Nicola

Not that far from San Sebastian, would not want  to walk it though as we say in Scotland! Looking at guns online just now. Some really nice guns but most of them are just too far away to go and look. Guns are expensive in France.... and being Scottish I like a bargain! I was thinking of the new 692 as I like the Beretta gun, now stop that laughing! The shop I visited yeasterday wanted €4000, about £3400, and to be fair he was offering more than I paid for my 687 Sil Pgn III.  I can understand why tho it is absolutely pristine even after 7 years rough shooting, he was really impressed with it! I saw a 692 trap with adjustable comb on the net from the UK £2700, thats a big difference! Anyway other than actually shooting its a great way to while away a few hours since the weather is frezzing here at the moment only about 16C.

cheers

John

Just spotted a new Browning Ultra XTR 30" multi choke adjustable comb for €2990 or £2530. I have never used a Browning before what is the opinion of this gun. Its in the same shop as the Kreighoff K32 so I can look at them both but would value the heads up on the Browning.

Cant go far wrong with a Browning, IIRC @Andy S  has just bought one :)
Hi JWP,

As fuz has remembered I do have an XTR but mime is a 32" fixed choke one, 3/4 and Full, I brought it second hand. The rubber comb is so comfortable to use and I have replace the recoil pad with an Isis green pad which helps no end with absorbing the recoil. I have the adjustable comb offset to the right slightly and have raised it 1/4" so it shoots slightly high for DTL. With the comb dropped down I found it shoots very flat hence lifting it up.

A Browning or Kreighoff gun will be very different to your Berreta, mainly due to the weight and its distribution in the gun. When I have shot friends Berreta's I find them very whippy as in Browning's there is alot of metal work in the fore end which alters the feel of the gun. The only ones that I have shot that feel like a Browning have been DT10's or S05's. Rather than spend lots of money, I would try out either gun, see if you can borrow  someones gun to shoot at the ground and shoot a full round with it at least to give an idea of the feel.

Hi Andy

Thanks for the tips. The difficulty for me is the fact that the club I shoot at only meets on a Friday once a fortnight and they only shoot for two or three hours! There is very little time for the niceties of trying things out most of the shooters want to get a couple of rounds in and be off home for dinner. I think I will have to look into going to other clubs to get more shooting. I am currently using a multi choke 687 Sil Pgn III game gun with 3/4 and full chokes so to be honest any new gun would be different. I actually think what I need is to get a trap gun and shoot regularly and adapt to it. I am new to clays full stop and I am told that ABT is not the easiest trap disipline? I have shot about 12 full rounds and have a current high of 17. What I have found is that I am thinking too much about my setup and not enough on hitting the clay. I have a eye cross dominance situation which I think I have now sorted out with the aid of a fibre optic sight and a small blanking patch on my shooting glasses, this really helped my confidence that I was seeing with the right eye ( pardon the pun my left eye is the dominant eye) and I now know that is not now a problem. I think a new shooting stick will be another thing taken out of the doubt list, which should again give me more confidence that the setup is now right. Then the hard work starts together with some coaching if I can get it nearby. The good thing is I enjoy the sport and want to improve so that has to mean more shooting!

Hi Jwp,

I can see that only shooting for a few hours on a Friday could be abit of a problem. My advice would be if you are serious about ABT then you will need a trap gun. The Kreighoff K32 is an older model so for the same money I would probably buy the Browning Ultra XTR especially as it is a multi choke adjustable then you could also shoot it at sporting targets.

Heres a couple of picture of mine.

Agree with Andy browning better deal but a beretta would be better still :)

Not neccasarily Andy, the original 682 gold is IMO the best all round gun beretta ever made find a good un and your sorted. Dt very good as well of course you are quite right there :)

The Krieghoff in the link does not look at all tired and certainly seems cheap enough given their usual prices. The Brownings are very nice too, nobody can advise you how well you might shoot with either but it's probably true to say that the Browning may drop near a grand in value as a second hand buy in a few years, the Krieghoff may just go up by the same amount. :mp3:   ;)

Hi Guys and thanks for the input! Andy I have looked at nearly every gun from the top manufacturers on that site and did look at those two both look good but one of them is on the other side of France and I don't think I would want to but a secondhand gun sight unseen the other is about a 200 mile round trip so I may have a look at that one. Some great guns on the site though. Hamster I must admit I love the look of that Krieghoff and there is a guy at the Ball trap who shoots an older model Krieghoff don't know if its the same model but I will be seeing him on Friday so will ask his opinion of them, he is one of the best shots at the club and regularly hits 25 on the first barrel. Both of the guns are at the same shop so I can look at both at the same visit. I also have spoken with another shop who have offered me a deal for my 687 against a 692 trap... more than I paid for it when I bought it new 8 years ago! But the price of the 692 €4000 is way more than I have seen them advertised on the internet from dealers in the UK. He is going to phone me today with a best price for the 692. How about the Krieghoff at the top, again its way up the to of France would you take a chance on it being fine! Guys got top feedback though.

This one looks even better :)  , they seem to be a lot cheaper over there !
