For what it is worth girls......

Start at the beginning on a 12 bore, (unless you are petite) use a low recoil cartridge, get someone who knows their stuff to check the fit, check that the pad is not a problem for digging in and if it is then round off the bottom. Then just go and shoot and enjoy. If you like it and want to compete, then shoot with people who know what they are doing and learn by watching....and if you can afford some lessons....do it.

Simples.

Oh get some good ear plugs....you will need them if you get above average!!

Ok, respectfully can I ask this too stop, this is the only forum I frequent, and would like to ask a simple question.

Glen I'm listening to all advice, from almost everyone especially from Nicola, and I've been in contact with sporting targets who has a Browning for sale, pictures will soon be added for us to view, then I little trip to go have a look.

Andy thanks mate will like to take you up on that.

You are most welcome Harley. There will be plenty of suitable guns for your wife and i am sure that you will find a good one. I hope a 'woman's opinion' has been helpful. xx

Could be very expensive Harley! I would suggest giving her a big heavy gun so she is put off! You could be paying for it for the rest of your life! ;) ;) ;)

Glen, . I understand what your saying (wink)

Ps, no option for smilies on iPhone or my iPad

Hi Harley

I'm a short lady too (5'1"). I agree with Nicola that 12gauge is a good way forward. I tried 20gauge before I got my first gun and really felt the recoil even with 21gram cartridges.

My 12 gauge has been significantly shortened and I have a danuser recoil device which helps with recoil, as do CompX shells which are amazingly good and even the 28gram are very soft.

As your wife is so short, it's inevitable you'll have to get her stock altered but it's worth it and once you get it fitted, she'll be sorted for a lifetime!

I shoot a beretta 682 gold E. I like berettas as they feel slimmer and manoeuvrability is good - I find the mk38 and Brownings to be too much gun for me but I know lots of ladies who shoot them brilliantly so it's all down to personal choice.

Another thing that varies between guns is palm swell area - this might be relevant is your wife is small and has small hands. There are lots of guns that regardless of stock length, I just can't reach trigger on at all - I have never found an auto which I can reach trigger on - and I have looked!

My one piece of advice would be to try lots of guns and just see what she finds comfortable.

She's more than welcome to try mine at some point if she would like to!

Good luck in your hunt and I hope you find something good - there can never be too many lady shots :)

Out of interest Sara, how long ls your lop? Thinking about a danuser on Mrs Fuzs gun. She shoots 13 and 7/8ths length atm.

As you are interested ;) (now on laptop so have smilies) in ladies LOP.......mine is 367mm....but then i like em short ;)

I'm so untechnical - what do I have to measure?
Length of pull Sarah. From trigger to the back centre of the butt (end of the stock including any pad).

Well done on your win in Wales.....nice to see all sections of the England team won!!!......Yaaahhhhhaaaaay!!

Wow that's ickle :) was just a bit worried about the damper fitting in the stock hole and not fouling on the bolt. No problems then, thanks for that :D

If you cant fit a Danuser then the Isis takes up much less room. Also lighter and works better in my view.

Will have to get my measuring rod in her stock hole and find out what the clearances are like ;)

OK Harley, Seriously you really need to get her to a good coach who will help her to decide what is best for her. Husbands are not always the best person to do such things, a bit like teaching your wife to drive apparently! Most of the lady shooters that I've met over the years tend to shoot fairly normal weight guns and most, but not all seem to shoot 24/28grm shells. Some lightweight guns have a kick like a mule and some shells do not help the matter either. I'm sure a good coach will be of great help mate! :)

Right back on track...............

As some of you know my wfe Hazel shoots, but her gun a Browning 525 28" game gun with fixed 1/4 and 3/4 choke, now fits her build. When we started shooting we brought both our guns, from the same dealer in the Oxford area and both are Browning 525's. Over the following years we both now have modified stocks, in my case slightly shorter, about 10mm and an adjustable comb has been fitted. My wifes gun is considerably shorter, she is only 5' 4" tall by about 35mm and has a Jones adjuster installed to correct a cant on the gun hold and to allow her eye to correctly align with the Rib.

Hazel also found that the shape of the Browning butt pad caused bruising on her chest, as if you look at the browning you can see they have a curved shape which can dig into a lady shooter. this was changed when we had the gunstock shortened, by Greenfields in Salisbury.

Hazel has found a cartridge that she likes using a Hull 21grm which seems to provide good breaks and she doesn't get knocked about by the recoil and is able to shoot a 100 bird comp now with no problems.

My browning 30" sporter, with extended chokes, is far to heavy for Hazel to shoot comfortably.

Harley if your wife would like to try Hazels gun she is more than willing to let her have a go.

she is only 5' 4" tall by about 35mm and has a Jones adjuster installed,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, so she is pretty slim then !!!!!!!!

Harley buy her a Perrazzi and when I needs fitted say it's prob best to get yours done and she can have that,,, simples.

Hey Mr Fuz.

Not sure if the stock bolt hole will be central. On my Beretta it wasn't, it was just in the way which made fitting the ISIS a touch more difficult with regards to boring out the hole. Ideally you want the shock absorber section, aligned with the centre of the stock.
