Mmmmmm sloe gin or fast gin yum yum essential piece of kit on a game day......I mean.....what do you expect to drink at elevenses field stop.....tea???? Comon get with the traditions people. Lighten up.

I always hunted with a hip flask in the pocket and I always shoot with a hip flask in the kit. Life would be sooooooo boring without our long standing blood sport traditions.

Quite right, a nip of sloe or sloe gin fizzy at elevensies, a glass of wine and a snifter of port at lunch on a game day never hurt anyone :)

Aye, and long may it continue.

The first athlete to ever be disqualified from the Olympics for drug abuse was Hans-Gunnar Liljenwall, during the 1968 games in Mexico. The Swedish pentathlete admitted to having two beers before the pistol-shooting discipline, to calm his nerves.

I am only interested in clay shooting (wink).....and the testing site shows alcohol as not restricted for shooting. Maybe different requirements for pentathletes (smile).

You're absolutely right, I just got that little nugget from a Kindle QI book I was reading (20p! Bargain). WADA's list is straightforward on Alcohol, shooting is listed with regard to Barbiturates on Page 12..http://www.wada-ama.org/Documents/World_Anti-Doping_Program/WADP-Prohibited-list/2013/WADA-Prohibited-List-2013-EN.pdf
I know (wink).

This is all to do with ISSF disciplines (not Fitasc).

When it suits those in charge turn a blind eye to beta blockers. I was shocked as I was on the international board at the time when a TUE for BB's was never sent on....!

...I have no problem with alcohol when shooting. I drink fast or sole gin when game

The Spanish have long drawn out lunches and they say that it is essential to have alcohol...

Stop being so prissy folks.....even the Italians have a Cafe Corretto first thing in the morning....!!

God help us if the tea total brigade came into game shooting or international shoots.

Most European countries shooters are used to and at home with alcohol.
Ahhh...that explains a lot!!! I've been beating on Perthshire shoots for Italians and Spanish guns...SCARY!!!

"Why did you chase the ducks off the water? We shoot them sitting!"

"Can you lie down the next time a low bird gets up so I can shoot it?"

"Tell your dog to stop chasing the running ones...I like to shoot them on the ground!"

"How did you enjoy your day?"

"The wine with lunch was not good..."

Oh what a shame you got some duffers.....but you can get plenty of English duffers as well (laugh out loud).

I find that the continental shots I have come across are excellent......but they tend to have shot for donkeys years all over the World.

Just preparing all my fast gin for Tuesday.....big day.....looking forward to it......chin chin :)

interesting that its only there for archery now and not shooting. are there limits for shooting else i am going to be hydrated but sozzled at more shoots from now on...

Now don't be silly Stu (wink).

The point is that across the World I have never seen drunk shooters during competition even though lots of them drink at lunchtime with the meal (wine or a beer or something continental).

I have seen plenty of shooters 'happy' on the night time though but all seem to recover well for the following days competition. Some of our top shots over the years have been thirsty sorts.....must be the hot weather (laughs knowingly). I have even had to put team mates to bed sloshed (Fitasc sporting) in the past .....but they got up the following day and were magnificent with winning style.

Well.....it would be so boring if there were no national characters (laughs).

Hmm unfortunately I shot really badly today too and haven't touched a drop for 6 days.

" I have even had to put team mates to bed sloshed (Fitasc sporting) in the past .....but they got up the following day and were magnificent with winning style."

Sorry I think that is far too much information.

Did they have a yellow line on their pyjamas and mount correctly when they got up the following morning??

I've been teetotal for many years so alcohol's not an issue for me. That said, I certainly don't think anyone should drink whilst shooting or between rounds. I have been to events where well known shooters have been mildly under the influence, certainly not to an extent that they're a danger but it doesn't look good.

I come from a motor racing background where random drug and alcohol testing took place. I'd have no problem with this in the shooting arena.

The issue of sleep has been raised and that's very important. I good nights rest before an event is a must. For most that probably means light meals and little or no alcohol.

You see it is horses for courses......a tea totaler will have a different view to one who partakes in alcohol....to one who has a view on safety .....to one who just lives their life safely within their own set boundaries.

One simply cannot shoot game without a stiffener ...!!! Fanar fanarrrrrr..!

Yum yum......fast gin is a great elevenses.......and so is a sloegasm.....!!

So we are now back to the 'everyone has free choice' scenario and the 'don't put your negative vibes on me' ...!!

Enjoy life peeps but don't forget to live it....... L. O. L.

274368,

Is that your Prison number, Giro cheque or Soup Kitchen number?

What a mis- statement the following is:-

'I come from a motor racing background where random drug and alcohol testing took place. I'd have no problem with this in the shooting arena.'

So do I, and I can assure you that Innes Ireland, James Hunt, Gerry Marshall, Tony Lanfranchi,  myself and many others would have no problem with alcohol testing, we would be able to identify most malts, ales, and wines.

Once stayed at a place with James, thought we'd bought the place on checking out.

Can't remember much about the evening before.
