I live on Horton hill, 2 minutes from lady's wood. I phoned the shooting ground last week interested in a round of clays for practice, the lady on the phone told me that it would have to be caddied which is fair enough, there is no pay and play (but pay and play was in the process of being installed), I was then told the cost of clays also fair enough I expect to pay for clays, then I was told I have to use your cartridges, in total a round of 100 clays was going to cost me £100. To my eyes it's to much and your pricing locals out of the market. I understand that you want a certain class of customer but in this economic climate is this really viable? I drive to ian coleys at least once if not twice a week it takes me 45 minutes to get there I pay £35 for 100 clay and uses my own cartridges and it still only costs me around £60 per round.

I would be happy to do nearly all of my shooting at lady's wood and buy my cartridges, clothing etc but at the minute I just cannot justify it. I shoot with 4-5 other local shooters that have all agreed that we would go to lady's wood but with your prices as they are we are just not willing.

I will add that we are small business owners not wealthy land owners, so we may be the clientele your trying to avoid?

Hi tom, we are not trying to avoid any clientele, not price any1 out. Give me a ring this morning, we have made a few decisions this week and the outcomes may well interest you. A monthly comp, this April offer, also a development on cartridges. Ask for Chris. I look forward to talking to you.

Hi Nick,

Here is a link to the prices, sorry if you could not find them. Also look at the events page for offers and deals. We are going to be running a 75 bird comp the last Saturday in the month for May, June, July, August and September. £35 entry. Details will follow shortly on the website about that one.

Are you local to us?

If you want to discuss anything please give me a call or email me (details on the website)

Thanks

Chris

Hi Chris,

Thanks for that. I'm pretty local (Stroud), so only about 30 mins away.

Will try to come down for some of the comps.

Cheers,

Nick

Be good to see you nick. You could always come down for a caddied round in the mean time :0)

All the best

Chris

So if I want to come down for a casual 100 sporting, looking at your prices on the web, it is going to cost me £70 plus cartridges?  Is that correct or am I missing something?

Crickey!!!! You need to move up north. I thought £25 for 100 clays, bacon sarnie to start and soup/pie to finish was expensive. You can use your own carts if you want or buy from the ground.

just been looking at the prices and not sure I can justify paying £30 to be caddied plus clays plus having to purchase extra cartridges. Seems like a lot of money for a practice round. Cheers anyway.

Nick, what on earth is all this "caddie" stuff, surely not a person to carry your gun and shells, or is it? If so why?

you don't have a dog and bark yourself.....
I imagine they press the button for you and tell you what type of target to expect... Mind you , for £30 I'd want to be transported by sedan chair around the course... ;-)

Blimey Nick, that really seems rather odd.

I think it is fairly common for those grounds that don't have a claymate type of system at the ground, however someone might correct me on that....
Blimey, I think when I first started shooting we had what were known as trappers. Basically a bunch of young lads who scored and fired the traps, didn't cost anything extra though!
