Build your skeet range in the middle of a field of peas (or dreams ) shoot as much as you like under the auspices of crop protection !!!.........Jobs a goodun !!

I built mine for much less.ive got the high house trap in one of my bedrooms firing through the window and my neighbour has the low house in his kitchen they are exactly 40 yards apart perfect.apart from we have a main road in between our houses, speeds you up on the pair on 4 though.

Does that apply to pigeon shooting etc?
Any shooting at ONE location or within a certain distance of that location. I forget what that distance is now , but if you want the fine detail I suggest you contact your local council or ask timps to research it for you.

surely if you won the lottery you would mess about shooting skeet

got to do something between the end of the spanish partridges and the start of the grouse :)  Oops I forgot argentinian doves, OK you have a point :D

Don't forget that if more and more people build their own ranges then that is less and less people going to grounds.

Why not invest in the future of your local ground?

Just a thought :)

My exact reason in fact "Nothing Local where I live".....

I sometimes read these posts and wonder if someone is not taking the urine when they are started.

Hey Julsey......I agree.....so I am off to support A1 by shooting some Helice today.

Yesterday I went supporting OT  and tomorrow I will also be off supporting OT.

Maybe I should invest in a range on the old homestead.

Naaaaaaah......too much like hard work......then you will have lots of mates wanting to come and shoot....probably expecting it for free....and then after a few months they or their mates who have now joined the party....will be setting up a club......no better still an NGB.....and then they will start moaning about the targets, complaining about the portaloo, complaining about the pig butties and the weak coffee or strong coffee, they will start to expect prize money.....then argue about how it is paid out......so some will start cheating......whilst others are incensed about how things have gone so bad yet will not do anything about it ....especially the cheats who are now winning everything on a regular basis and who have driven off all my under 10 yrs old trappers.....so I am operating 10 remote controls from a chair in the middle of the ground.....in the rain....without an umbrella....and some tw-t telling me I am not doing it right.....and the trap on layout 4 needs filling up......but because some bright spark got me a section 11(6) ....I have a non-cert holder pinging away at the side of me and none of the other cert holders will look after him whilst I fill the traps...............

Gasp for breath....and it has only been 2 months since I started.....

Have I covered everything.......yeap I think so.......

So peeps.......support you local ground or even your not so local ground if it puts on what you want to shoot...

.....just saying...!

A ground has been set up just down the road from me, good little sporting layout. but not facilities and no trade.  Very good targets, but no carpark to speak of, only a few footpaths, no café, no toilets, no shop and a tough walk round up hills. Only shoots Wednesday evening and sunday morning 10.00 till 1.00

Its a vicious circle, you can't expand without customers and customers won't come to a poor set up ground.  I went with a mate on Sunday morning and there were 3 of us there, total takings of less than £50 for a sunday, how long will it last? Well I hope it survives because its a lovely setting and lots of scope for improvement with some heavy investment, but the future doesn't look too bright at the minute, 10's of thousands of pounds of investment for less than £50 turnover at a weekend.

Can't say that I would rush to plough money into a new ground right now!

Johnny - not quite on the same level but reminds me of Bisley Shooting Grounds "Long Siberia" sporting layout. Its away from the NCSC and main camp past the longer rifle ranges on the way back to the village. You have to visit BSG on the camp to show your SGC and Proof of Insurance. You then get a dongle to count your clays. Its pricey at 36p per clay (but they will take off any no birds you mention) but of the 3 times I have shot it there have been approx 23 stands running, most stands use 3-5 traps all with a modern delay release. Varied targets from driven pheasant when your in a sunken butt (my favourite) to Big Ben which is a trap mounted way up high on a Cherry Picker. All this over a large expanse of woodland so a decent walk between each. They even have walkie talkies scattered around in case of issues.

Not once have I queued at a stand and usually bump into 10-15 people at most. Has some strange opening times as in the summer they dont run on the weekend at all (bizarre). With the investment made to build that and the ongoing running costs I would be very suprised if it makes much money. Either that or they get a lot more shooting during the weekdays.

You saying I am taking the pee ??

I want to get good at skeet, and the only way I think I can afford to practise as much as required is to build my own, maybe.

You obviously have never met me, but I can assure you, I don't place posts for fun.... (apart from the one about the gold coloured chokes :) )

The Long Siberia was my first introduction to English Sporting last summer when I was a Bisley shooting the small-bore meeting for a week in August.  I thought it was a fabulous facility if a little expensive compared to what I know now but a great setup with a delay facility on each stand so that you can shoot it alone for practice if you have nobody to go with.  I won't hesitate to go again this year.  I daresay I might also be looking for some other grounds local to Bisley.

I was told that the reason it is not open to the public at weekends as this is when they do all their tuition for the people who are working during the week.

When Long Siberia is open you can book in directly now at the hut at the start of the shooting layout and collect your counter rather than go up to the main office on Bisley Camp which makes life a bit easier!

Hi fuzrat

Will you be at OLLS on Saturday? Pete & I are coming to join in the fun on this leg of the League! :hunter:

Wes, building your own shows dedication but Imho you would be better off to travel to a decent ground with quality targets. I travelled an hour and a half to practice at Barby last weekend and I learnt more from 150 targets there than I would from 1500 on my own. Reason being, i was shooting with top shooters. Past, present and future England team members. The advice i got and the tips from watching them shoot was priceless. I have realized since shooting a fixed target discipline that you have to practice like the top guys. So for me, why not practice where they do, alongside them :)

Best of luck with building it matey....let us know how you get on.

Bisley remains a mystery to me. Should be a mega ESP shoot success story. Weird.
They are a massive success story.

Great corporate days and less chance of moaners telling them how to run the job.

Lovely clubhouse that is now permanent.
