I have been buying Rio Target 28 gram @ £160 through a 3rd party that's putting a few quid on i cannot grumble at that they are a good shell

I have been trying 24 gram Cheddite cartridges at the 'new' price of £177 and have been very pleasantly surprised.
Are those the smart strike cartridges ? They are starting to be seen quite a lot down here.

Very very popular down here and to be honest if I could buy them locally I would consider using them they are €165 down here.

They are just called Universal Trap  from what I can see. They are a horrible green coloured case, which is packed in a yellow and white box. They have switched to these from Express at the local ground, as they are also available in 21 grams,  and they are pretty good too !

Right got you those are slightly different to the smart Strike which I think are a T3 type cartridge. They are all good though Cheddite make loads of cartridges that go under different banners ... from what I am told... also there a great many cartridges that are loaded using Cheddite componentry. The cartridges that I am using just now are made from Fiocchi components... not sure whether that is good or bad but I am getting good results from them.

Every gun will pattern different with  any cartridge, its only experience and your own trials that you will come to know what works best for you and the gun. So saying one is better than another is something that can never be resolved can it ! if you shoot well on a day was it the brilliant shells ! or was it you !!

Probably the shells, if it was me, I would shoot brilliantly EVERY WEEK  !   :p

" if you shoot well on a day was it the brilliant shells ! or was it you !! "

The exclamation marks should be question marks however those  are good questions. I would like to think that the way cartridge manufacturers test their product would at least give some idea of uniformity across a range of guns ... but I would not bet on it!

To the questions. I like many I suppose watch some really excellent shooters every week shoot competitions in mainly excellent weather and light conditions so there is no need to claim bad weather. One week they will break 98from100 UT targets and the next 95 the next again 96 the next again even a 93! I have never ever heard a good shot walk off and blame missing four or five targets on bad cartridges and these guys are shooting the same cartridges every weekend. Which for me indicates that the man shooting the gun is far more influential in what happens to the target than the cartridge he takes out of his pocket to shoot it... regardless of the cost. That fact is even more important for nearly every shooter contributing on this forum who by and large are shooters looking to improve their own performance.. to suggest that buying expensive cartridges may in some way help them in their quest is quite frankly delusional .

best thing vote with your wallet     buy cheapest carts available and you will probably find they work ok  leave the expensive ones on the shelf  untill the price comes down

i have also checked my scores over the last 3000 carts which were 3 different makes   no great difference in any days shooting .. cheap works for me

Yes but what if you were shooting budget shells it puts a doubt in your mind in trap disciplines and its your mind that gives you the edge !

They all go bang at the end of the day and will kill a target its what you are comfortable with and what you expect them to do

Wot Dave said..  some cartridges do seen to under perform in one gun but are ok in another.. I've seen it happen to 3 top shooters who have been sponsored with a new load only to shoot poor scores but immeditely return to normal after changing to with another make or load.

On cheap vs expensive.. like i've said before. On clays that are either near, face on, not very quick  or  break easily there's probably not much difference. That includes stuff up to regular ABT/UT  However, where  the targets are edge on, hard as concreate, full speed OT or edge on 45 yard fast crosser etc IMO they do make a difference on the extream stuff.

Put it this way. Next time I go to Lonato for OT I'll be using a Top end load.

Paul, remember that Lonato use eco friendly clays, harder to break than standard clays, you need a premium shell with hard shot to break all the ones you hit!!!

Someone i know shoots White Golds through his Teagued mx2000s loves 7.5's but is absolutely convinced that 8's are no good through it.

Not been shooting long but scything through C class wherever he goes.

Think this proves perception has a huge amount to do with performance, certainly more than the actual spec of the cartridge used.

For most of us mere mortals it doesn't take much to put you off your mental game.

So the current euro/£ exchange rate (1.16) is 11% lower than pre-Brexit rate (1.30) so they put cartridge prices up by 18%.  F*cking ridiculous.

The most it (£) went down was 15% and its been gaining value ever since.

Didn't notice prices dropping when the euro/£ rate went up to 1.44 last November.

Think I'll be looking for a cheaper cartridge.

DT
Just an excuse to put them up

I have bought a pallet of Rios and a pallet of Fioccis in the last 2-3 weeks. No price change to me.
