A hypothetical question...

Say a shooter knows his friend is entered into a competition in the wrong class, he then shoots the comp without saying a thing to the organiser's, his friend knowingly wins money in the wrong class...is he as guilty of cheating (by allowing it to happen) as his friend or not???

interesting .....

strictly speaking yes guilty by association BUT in the real world would you / could you shop your friend or would you just think "its on there conscience not mine" said friend would definitely go right down in my estimations.

I would point out assuming I'm with them that they are listed in the wrong class before shooting giving them the chance to correct it.  If they didn't I would express my disappointment to them.

Excellent question and hard to answer given there could be so many differing angles but in principal the only cheater is the shooter himself but the friend will carry the burden of having inadequate morals, I'd hope to have enough backbone to correct that friend long before it got to collecting winnings, that's surely the kind of friend my friend wants ?

Now, purely because you're usually so good at these things, there is no apostrophe needed there, I feel I would be failing you if I didn't mention that.

So your friend took money that was not his to win and deprived someone that should have in that class, that's being dishonest  shame on you both !.......... hypothetically

we must take note of the fact that James stressed this is "hypothetical" so we should not assume that James was party to any of it.

just saying

he may have found out after the event that this happened, any number of scenarios really ?
I would give the money back.......................but that's me

Could be worse if a class trophy was given you would have to look at it ! and remember

That could not happen to you Ian you cannot go lower than D class

I know this is hypothetical and for me Hamster and Sian have this right. But from a legal standpoint there's a concept known as "Joint enterprise". I'm no legal expert, but my understanding is that if you are involved and have knowledge of what's going on, then you're jointly at fault.

So my take is that morally and legally you'd be wrong to say nothing. 'nuf said I'd say.

Aiding and abetting?

From a criminal aspect,  carrys the same weight as the principle offender   (That is if the offence in question is a criminal offence ?)

If the original person set out to falsify there status and the friend went along with it, then its aiding and abetting .

But as it;s hypothetical, its all smoke , mirrors, and  this ink will self destruct in 5 seconds

:santa:

If it was a registered event inform the CPSA

If not  then it is more difficult depends if the organiser states it was shot according to CPSA classes, if so inform the organiser.

Too much stretching of rules in this sport.

Bob

Hypothetically is a f**king sh*tty thing to do for both of them
