I agree with glasses and ear protection but I struggle with hats.  I am trying my best to find something that I feel comfortable in.  The peaks all seem too big for me so I am going through different styles and flat caps to find something suitable.  It is sensible to have a cap I agree but a cap has never saved me from the clays, I still manage to get pummelled all over by bits of clay and a lot of shot.

I very rarely wear a hat and if I do it's normally a Bennie type due to being cold.. In fact looking at the CPSA website I can not see where it states you must wear a hat!!! and looking at the bit I've copied and pasted below is worded incorrectly first off it states "recommends"  then goes onto say "compulsory" it's either one or the other it can't be both!!

In the CPSA Safety Course, the CPSA recommends three types of protection, Eyes, Ears and Head.

Hearing Protection

Hearing protection, either muffs or plugs, are advisable at all times when shooting or in the company of others who are shooting. Indeed it is compulsory to wear some form of hearing protection at CPSA registered competitions. Damaged hearing cannot be restored - prevention is the answer.

The European standards for hearing protection are:

EN352-1:  This covers protection afforded by earmuffs.

EN352-2:  This covers protection afforded by earplugs.

EN353-3:  This covers protection afforded by muffs attached to a helmet.

Eye Protection

Shooting glasses, as from January 1st 2004, are mandatory whilst shooting or in the company of shooters at all registered shoots. Glasses will not only protect your eyes from stray pieces of broken clay but also from falling lead and any gun malfunctions. Glasses can be additionally beneficial in difficult light conditions, with appropriately tinted lenses.

CPSA Eye Protection Policy: The wearing of adequate and effective visible eye protection by shooters, trappers, officials and spectators at or around any shooting position at all Registered events is mandatory from 1st January 2004. It is recommended that this protection be to a minimum standard of BSEN 166 F details of which are available by clicking here.

I would argue that a peaked baseball cap will save your eyes more than glasses?
Probably or at least will help but I am finding it difficult to find one that does not make me feel "enclosed" - I can't really explain it properly.

this is a problem on a normal sunday with folks asking to see pairs and then they get arsey when told no , which in turn winds them up more and hence shoot the stand badly , we all know the rules for the game we play , i think glasses are a certain must but still end up telling alot on a shoot day to put them on , earing is as important as glasses , the hat one in my opinion is quite important as i have witnessed on one of our simulated days a broken clay came out of no where and hit someone on the head and the cut opened up like a fizzed up champayne bottle , he chose not to where his cap as it would have messed up a stylish hair cut , but not as much as the new gel and dye did !!!!

so come on we all know the rules , we can all use common sence , we want to make this game more professional so lets start from within !!!

:fie:  I don't have a problem with rules such as viewing targets! my old man would beat the s*** out of me if I was cheating whether it was ball games card games you name it?  Different world today were the motto is "If you don't cheat, you don't want to win bad enough!" :fie:

I have always had a big enough pair of balls to accept that anything I do in life (if its my decision ) is at my risk! I do not run screaming for compensation if things go wrong through my own mistakes. :fie:
Of course, but it would appear that not all things in life, are about you. :)

The UK is apparently the Whiplash king of Europe...we live in a "where there's pain, there's a claim" society, so I imagine that there had been a number of claims, of that nature.

Well boys and girls. There your eye's, ears, head. You only get them once so ruin them if you wish.

I had a low chipped incoming clay run right down my face from forehead to lip badly cutting me and ruined the glasses. Had I not been wearing glasses I could have lost an eye.

Regards to seeing birds. Why not allow it and the scorer puts them on the card, on an unused line, when the card is handed in the shooter is charged £1.00 / clay.

Rules are rules but until every ground in forces them this type of thing is going to happen, on every stand were it States what the birds are, on report sim what ever the case me be, also have written one show pair from outside the cage no exceptions, explain to the refs if they are asked to show another pair to point to the sign, all clay shooters complain that the sport needs more professionalism yet rules are bent all the time, as for not wearing glasses and hearing protection I think they should be sent home

No good for simos (your sign).....just saying
I was going to say that but thought I might be seen as picky but you saved me Nic :)

All ways one, for the sims you can put 2 show pairs maximum ?

Ruddy ell sporting sounds a hoot. Folk arguing with refs and pushing in the queue and swearing to themselves. Never knew sporting had the potential for such fun. Thing is though that most of the trap shooters I shoot with would not tolerate such behaviour and things would get very vocal very fast if some soft arse winging git started moaning. Just get in the ruddy cage thing and shoot the ruddy target.

Aah, you lot just save yourselves all the bother and just grunt when a clay needs to be launched - no talking therefore no arguing :) :)

I would imagine that, should you raise a claim for injury to your eyes whilst shooting a CPSA Registered comp, where you HAD NOT been wearing appropriate eye protection; your claim would fall on deaf ears... (possibly as they hadn't used appropriate hearing protection)

Hence, they have informed you in the rules of said requirement, which would relinquish them from most insurance claims, where an eye injury had occurred...of which I should think there had previously been many.

So you do have the choice, as a "Grown Up" not to wear them, but this will very likely go against you, in the event of a claim.

The "Rule", is not there for your protection, it is for theirs :)
Are you trying to wind me up? It's been a long week!

You could wear one backwards - it won't stop any bits getting in your eyes, but it will stop them from going down the back or your neck!!!!!!!

:fie:  I can remember when I had just started shooting clays about 1966 or so? Bob Browning  (Blandford & Dorchester G.C.)

asked me to button a DTL squad, all went well till the first shooter to misss a bird hollered slow pull! so I gave him the bird again, another minute or so he missed another? Slow Pull he hollered. F*** you I hollered and flung the button at him and walked away and the rest of the squad clapped!
