At the launch of the DT11 last year they said that they were going after the maker that started with P and ended with I.yes they may well own a bit of perazzi but I doubt it will stop them!
Just because they have a lot of dosh ......does not mean that they will win the Perazzi market...

The Perazzi users are 'Perazzi users' and not just any old gun users.....they love their guns.....they are loyal to their guns......they know their guns win....

I have never had a Beretta in 28 years in my stable.....and I can assure you that I will never have one in there ever....!!

I dislike them and always have done......it is purely personal choice......but 'that' is an example of why Beretta will not win Perazzi clients IMHO.

There will be exceptions of course.... .......'Gun Tarts'...!!

Yes Nic, gun tarts!! Then there will be the ones to whom money speaks! We all know that some of the top guys will shoot whatever gun holds most money for them!  I guess it's a fact of life these days Nic.

It would be great if your 'fav' cartridge won as much......but hey....that is life.....someone has to lose......

Maybe you would all start hitting a few more if you used a good shell  all the time.........
I agree, but seeing as I shoot sporting, sportrap and a bit of FITASC I have gone for Gambore, I suppose I could go for a cartridge that has not won as many world titles in my chosen discipline such as Fiocchi by why slum it :p :p :p

Well the fact is that the top shooter will use the gun and the cartridge that he or she knows will suit them to get their end goal......no matter what the deals on the table are. .......true story...!

Most shooters (excluding Gorgeous George, Faulds etc) will have a limited time at the very top......so they will be looking for every edge they can get.....just saying..!

This is all pretty much outside my little world, but ............

I'm a Perazzi fan and will not deny that, tho I have thinned the herd a bit recently.  And I have always been happy w/ Fiocchi when I used them.  I must admit that I was happier with Federal bunker loads.  And the Federal flyer loads are just way more pleasant to shoot.  On the Beretta front - been a while but a friend let me try his SO4 at a flyer shoot and, straight and true, I could've lived with it no problem.  I wasn't absolutely compelled to have one but if the opportunity came by ...................

just saying

Yes you are right of course Nic. I have often wondered why we see quite a few top sporting shooters who get to stay at the top for quite some time, people such as the ones that you mention, but it seems as though the very top trap shooters do as you say, have a very limited time at the very top. I wonder why there is the difference between the disciplines?

Let's face it Nic, most of us are never going to be in the same league as those top people for whatever reason, and it would not matter what shells or guns we used. In fact a very wise and highly experienced shooter and gunsmith said to me only a few weeks back, that if there was a gun made that could make him into a world champ, then it would be sitting in his safe! :pleasantry:

Just my guess at the trap part of this; but Sporting shooters need a HUGE amount of experience with an infinite amount of presentations and problems to solve. Hence the longer you have been doing it the better you will be (physical  / real old age issues aside). I liken Sporting to learning a foreign language. Might be ten years minimum before you can pass as a local -if ever!

Is it the case that the factors needed for trap disciplines are more aligned with reactions, focus and so on; which are less related to enormous experience and more with peak age etc?

All discipline are as hard as each other....to get to the top you have to be as perfect as you can be.  They all have their own challenges to overcome......and at the top they are all equal.

Absolutely! A perfect training regime for one will be different to another though.

Serious question (I really don't know), are there very successful trap shooters over 60? Sporting is full of them. Maybe that demonstrates the difference in required qualities?

Will, I think with trap shooting you are right, especially the fast disciplines, it's all about reactiions, instinct, speed and focus. Trap is often described as unfriendly or not sociable, I can accept this quite easily because there is no let up all through the round, generally sporting seems to be more sociable if you like. There seems to be time for a chat between stands, even time for a coffee and a pie sometimes it would seem! In trap there is none of that, you are under pressure all the way through. As for age, well I would generally agree that reactions and reflexes do slow down as one ages, having said that I can inform you that I've often been shot into the floor by guys who have been drawing a pension for over a decade, and that was when I was in my 40's!!! :senile:

Over 60's trap shooters! Well I would guess that Dick Fletton is one, he's certainly a vet and has recently won trench and HDB titles as far as I know, in fact we do have a rather good vets section in or national trap squad, which I think still has Kevin Borely in it! I think also John Wynn is still bashing away out there too, as are a few more.

We have multi world and european champions who are still winning in UT in Vets and Super Vets.......

Kevin Borley, Peter Boden, Steve Ling, Gordon Lee, Tom Prescott, Joey Jones, Dick Fletton, John Nightingale, Fletcher Watson.......not to mention Ian Peel and Kev Gill who can still effectively kick ass in the UK.

Several still wining in Helice internationally with our Vets taking Gold in Lazio at the Worlds last year and this year at the Europeans they had Silver in both Vets and Super vets.

In FITASC disciplines you can keep winning forever...so long as you put it in the right place.

I guess its a case of being a wise old owl in all disciplines then! Bodes well for my future..

Now that Aaaron has won the world cup with his Gamba, it will be interesting to see if any more top shooters start using them! It will also be interesting to see how many Italian OT shooters start winning with DT11's, let's face it, Beretta have enough clout to be able to buy just about anyone they please and they will be trying to knock Perazzi off their perch this year.

Saw a news letter somewhere on the web the other day grom Beretta listing all the recent titles won with DT11's. there were quite a few listed!

Top trap shooters having less longevity than sporting counterparts? I hadn't noticed that, having read all sorts of magazines for decades the same names have been at the top for many years. You may just be able to argue that a few abandon the trap disciplines more than sporting but nothing fundamentally stops someone staying at the top in trap.

Trap shooters do not have less longevity (cannot remember who posted that) they just get better and better ....older and wiser.......bigger shelf needed for the trophies ....etc etc etc etc

That may be so, but the practical reality is that ageing easily and often provides attendant bumps that simply squash whatever inherent talent there may be.  I was never Mr. Wonderful, but the spine surgeries and the disintegrating eyes have put up some significant barriers to whatever meager talent I might still have.  Something like - one nuclear weapon can ruin your whole day.

But I do still shoot and I intend to continue.  Even w/out the prospect of gold medals.
