surely if damaged by airline you claim on there insurance as its there negligence ?
I know some airlines in the small print state if bags are lost or damaged its down to your own insurance to replace it.

Being a small-bore shooter I belong to the NSRA.  Their member's insurance includes gun insurance, not just third party insurance.  They cover accidental damage as well as other risks such as fire, theft etc.  Rifles stocks can often get damaged and these are replaced under the insurance no problem.  I am pretty sure the current level of cover is £5,000 but it may be capable of extending to £10,000.  Obviously they cover shotguns and game and clay shooting.  With membership at £80 or thereabouts per annum its an easy way to get reasonable cover for your guns.

I would have thought that the CPSA would do something similar but as far as I know they don't.  Not everyone uses guns worth more than £5k!

Sporting goods are carried as 'limited release' items and aren't covered by airline insurance, the responsibility lies with the owner.
