If as people are saying here that shoots are getting softer in general then we will all be in AA class.

Have to decide this weekend which will be the softest between weston wood or wylye just to keep the ego inflated.

You,ve only got to look at martin myers 3 scores last weekend, 95,98 and 88 out of 92,you,d think not suprising really as he,s a top British shooter, but even with those scores he only won one shoot and that was by only missing 2 clays for a 98,had he missed only one more he would only have been joint first

A CLASS at these shoots won on 95,93 and 86 ex92

B class at these shoots won on 86,87 and 82 ex 92

C class at these shoots won on 81,80 and 71 ex 92.

Just a thought, Could it be the C classers on here that we regularly hear about shooting PBs and picking up cash (myself included) are on here posting and getting involved because we want to soak up the collective wisdom and improve through the ranks? you dont hear so much from the twice a month at the local shooters.

At the end of the day I won C at sporting targets with a 72 and would have placed in B with that, it was won on 91. Was it a hard shoot? not the toughest I've shot imo and I feel a little let down with myself not to have got my first win with a score I know I could have achieved and certainly not a pb.

Are we having a bit of a hangover after some cracking targets at the worlds? and just maybe the big scores in the classes are down to getting towards the end of the period and the movers are getting toward the top of their game?

Edit, for optimas post, maybe its because the big boys are at their peak after training hard for the worlds etc?

surely then everything is relative if the big boys are shooting above there average the lower classes will to so things obviously are getting easier. We will all end up AA and that cures the other thing Sandies

Whether things are easy or hard winning a A,B,C class can only give the shooter more confidence, more confidence should help you to improve.

There will no doubt be a time when you come down to earth with a very big bump.

I missed B by 0.4% this time so the over inflated ego does not add up, and if i did and the scores were the same as when i left i would of been placed in B giving me more confidence again.

And when your in AA will you all still go comp??? when your up against the like,s of myers ,rudling, childerhouse,Edd solomons etc

I detect you may think I was directing my comment at you Tiptop, I assure you this is not the case and I well know which grounds you shoot and the difficulty thereof, a lot of them I shot the same day.

As to coming to earth with a bang, we all do at some point, its just how much you can cushion the floor to give maximum damage limitation and bounce back ;)

Always shoot comp every dog has his day, obviously as you go up it gets harder but it also depends who's shooting where on the day also.

Evening chaps, i'm guilty of the 80 and 71 in c class, think good shooting conditions have helped over the last month ,it's nice to shoot in a t-shirt and vest rather than rain coat and brolley

No didn't think that for one minute Fuz, as you know love to shoot, the shoots set by steve lovatt and apparently he is one of the best target setters.Just seems that the game is getting easier all round and we are just becoming disallusioned that we are getting better.

certainly makes a difference shooting in the nice weather and this to will certainly make a diffrerence to the scores overall, nothing worse than rain on the glasses

Well shot mk38 bob. Perhaps we are fair wheather shooters as my 79 and 72 in c were both on sunny days.

That's just got me thinking, sometimes you forget what it's like shooting clays in the winter, spraying de-icer on frozen traps, countless no birds and freezing your tits off to the point where you can't feel your fingers never mind pulling the trigger :)

Not sure I really understand what's being said here. Are people complaining that C class shooters are putting in scores that don't reflect their ability?? Do you really expect C class shooters to always shoot in the 60's? Where is it written in stone that ANY shooter isn't allowed to have a good day when things click? I had a PB of 74 at Wylye, then a car wreck at Gunsite with a 54. Can the noble and wise explain this for me? (that was a rhetorical question, I really don't think anyone is qualified to comment on my shooting apart from me!)

If the concensus is that the shoots are getting easier, then maybe the doom-sayers would be happy with a regimented ESP programme where all the layouts are identical. Jeez, that would make me take up tiddlywinks!

And in answer to a question above, if I ever make AA, then damn right I'd go comp, even against Myers, Childerhouse, Solomons et al, because I would have progressed enough to take them on!

At the end of the day,it,s down to the ground owner's, they know what pulls in the punters more than anyone and they set the targets accordingly, i think steve lovatt went down the tough target route a few years back but numbers of shooters dwindled and he relented, but he still manages to strike a good balance to suit all abilities. perhaps i,m in the minority wanting to see it toughened up a bit,and when i say toughened a bit i don,t mean 70 yd plus screaming edge on targets just not so much on end of barrel, shoot straight at it stuff where you can put a skeet choke in and shoot 80 % of the targets.

Perhaps a few ground owner's could give their thoughts!!

So what should an average C class score be ? I'm in C but climbing the ladder to B class and have a handful of scores in the 70s .

Optima what would you say a tough shoot should be won on bearing in mind the lower class shooters and their abilities.

When you stand about you can here the top shots saying they think it will be won with a 90 so and so, they never say that will be won with a 100 straight.

I think there should be tough targets at all shoots we won't learn and they need to be there to sort the top boys out.

Maybe we are reaching a level of technology and improved coaching and equipment to allow these scores to go in?

I remember when I was a kid, granted I wasnt shooting registered targets but everything was a direct mirror of the real thing coming off manual traps so all they had to work with was spring tension.

Then auto traps came in with the ability to tilt them and throw curlers, chondels, battues etc. I dont ever remember seeing a chondel back then.

I think much the same as golf we have learnt the best way to shoot the different targets we are presented with and also have the equipment to help us master them. They keep making golf courses longer with narrower fairways and deeper rough and people still throw in big under par scores.

We are a highly adaptive species and to keep testing ourselves we need to make the challenge harder, how? not sure yet but if I can come up with the answer I will open a ground and wait for the masses to flock to my door.

Last cut off points were;

C. 67.5 and below

B. 67.6-74.7

A. 74.8-81.9

AA.82-86.3

AAA.86.4 and above

So are the shoots getting easier or are some people improving?

Not every shooter in their class is hittting the top score.Although some scores are two classes above the average.

I currently have a 66.2 adjusted average and hope to make it into B at the next cut off , so I would like to think that I am improving and the shoots are not getting easier :)
