Started about 2 years ago, introduced by a friend when I had to give up competitive netball, and God I love it, wish I'd got into it sooner.

One thing I have done since I started is kept a little diary of every time I've shot and recorded the good the bad and the ugly so I can see how I have progressed. I have now beaten all the guys at my Club at least once and won Class C at Four Counties so I have some great memories. Set myself little targets and expectations and keeping them realistic so I can enjoy achieving them.  Not sure how good I will be able to get with limited time and access to shooting, once a week usually, but am going to have fun trying to get better!

PS have loved reading everyone's stories too...thanks for sharing...x
Go girl go ! East Yorkshire lasses are tough !

Yes well done you that's a great record so early regardless of gender.

Had a go in Ireland on a corporate do last year and then had a sort of a lesson earlier this year. Thought I was great cos I hit a few, applied for my SGC and received it in April. Bought a gun, shot a bit of practice then entered first reg comp and realised I was a bit rubbish and comps are a very steep learning curve. Met some friendly people who are more than happy to offer advice/allow me to tag along at comps.

Unfortunately time doesn't allow me to go shooting as much as I would like but hope to continue through the winter. Got a lesson with Ed next week and hoping he is a miracle worker and can start to help me..... Bloody love the sport though and being competitive, I will do my very best to make sure I improve.

Forget where you come in competition, I shot at Hepworth Hall in the British the other week and came 400+ out of 900 but came away thinking what a great shoot, I felt I shot well and also learnt a lot!!!

It's fun and enjoyable and you are out there to beat your own scores and if you get close on a competition then it's a bonus!

Don't compete to put pressure on yourself, go to enjoy it because those 100 clays go quick!!!
This is very good; my own personal competition is with my own previous best score. And must make sure i beat the wife, doesn't always happen lately. She's getting quite good.

Hi,

I wonder how long do you shoot guys ?

I picked up the gun about a year ago and would love to break more clays but only as a hobby still do sometimes competitions and become class B :)

. I wonder how long do you shoot ? And how long ( or how much ) it took you to be reasonable shooter?
I have been a shootist all my life, like many on here. Catapults, Bow and Arrows, Air pistol, Air Gun, .410, 16B, 12B and many of the Full Bore Rifles, .22rf, 222, .223, 234, 25-06, 270 and 308. My advice would be, the more times you shoot, the better you will get. Take a point from our top Athletes, they train without a break, Andy Murry will practise EVERY day, because the more he does the better he will be, as he proved this year. I am confident if you do the same (as much as you can do) you too will achieve all you wish for in our great sport. The use of a good coach will help you also.

To answer your question how long will it take, who knows. For myself to reach the England team, 10 years of blood sweat and tears.

A very dear friend of mine who shot all of his life was fixated with an England Dtl badge, he shot every week traveling all over to get scores in he lived and breathed for an England badge he was good but never quite good enough on the day. He died at the age of about 55 having never smoked or drank.

The moral is not everyone makes it (those England badges are not as easy as some may think) but its a lot of fun trying and you must enjoy every opportunity to pull the trigger as you never know when it will be your last.

Thank you :) very positive answer !
I can imagine it depends on personal performance like in any sport however shooting might require more founds than other sports :)
I am happy to hear all answers and time to learn and be positive :)
Cheers :)
