I am about to move properties and was mulling over the idea of having the cabinet in my study and putting a false cupboard/cabinet around it, has anyone done this and can furnish ideas/tips?

Regards

Mike

Hi Mike I make veneered cabinets to fit around  the metal cabinets, you just pull them out to access the fixed metal one. Would send picture but don`t know how to up load it.

I have wanted to make one out of a grand father clock, you could even have the face part as a separate box for chokes and glasses etc.But the wife wont let me,aparently there not in fashion?  #underthumb

I made one using a cuckoo clock. The only problem was I could only open it on the hour when the bird came out with the key.

I did what Skeet suggests.

I bought a self assembly single wardrobe and cut a hole in the back that passed over the gun cabinet.

I then mounted the gun cabinet on the wall.

You then put the wardrobe over the gun cabinet. Presto !

When aligning the gun cabinet and the wardrobe make sure that when all are mounted that the gun cabinet door opens properly inside the wardrobe.

Buy a double wardrobe and you will have storage for all your shooting clothes etc and maybe a few cartridges as well.

The FEO was very impressed, lots of brownie points !

The frontage for my cabinet is a bookcase. When I first moved here the FEO cam and was filling in his paperwork which he put onto a shelf on the 'bookcase'. He got a bit of a suprise when I asked him to shift his papers so I could open the cabinet !

If you just want something to scare burglars away, I will post you a photograph of my Mother in Law !

Stick a few of these on the door...
