Wow, just tried out my "back up" gun which has just returned from the local gunsmith with an added Isis 23mm Original Green pad (Order placed before the new ones were available). Its amazing, 21g loads feel none existent, 24g very soft, and 28g like 24g's used to before the pad was fitted. At the same time (and before testing the gun) I dropped off my Zoli sporter with the order for an Isis full system and Pad, Im now wondering If I should just go for an XPad, and save a few quid; if they really are that much better than the originals. Does anyone have a view, or experience of all of the above to help me make the right decision?

Xpad? Wassat then?
YorkyBrown and CleverSC3, Nicola was giving us the low down on this pad on another thread recently. I just can't find which one!!

Hopefully she will be along later to fill us in. Sounds good to me though.

I've just replaced my Kickeez pad with an ISIS green pad on my Evocomp and it's a huge improvement. It's much easier to pick up those second barrel kills now.

I have had one of the only 3 prototypes on my gun for most of this year....and will never ever give it up.....it is brilliant.

I shot all this years 36grm competitions abroad with this pad and it make it feel like 21grms.......and it does not bounce. It says still for the second shot.

Just bloody brilliant....!!

The part that touches is softer so it moulds to the body much better in the shot.

Very comfortable......even for me with a rotar cuff injury

what about recoil reduction Nicola? Can you give a rough %. I like the old green pad from todays tinkering but would prefer to reduce further, whilst I appreciate it wont be the same as a full recoil system, if the reduction is good enough it will save money, wood on the stock, and time.

I have the same quandary Yorky, Xpad should arrive today to try, I have the normal green pads but have not tried full system.

I had a rotator cuff problem but it was in my left shoulder - and it's not very nice.  Been looking at this more and more lately, I don't have a problem with recoil but I don't want to get a problem with it! and just because I don't find it a problem doesn't mean I'm not affected by it - and those effects are probably cumulative.  I think we would all be surprised if we could actually see the energy involved and the way the body dissipates that energy and the way it affects us every time we pull the trigger.  Can't shoot again 'till after Christmas so I'm going to look into this.

Just my tuppence worth

Tim

P.S. Nicola did you use the adjustable version - or has anyone used the adj. version?

36grm feels like a 21grm......now that is plenty....so can I suggest that you try that first.

I have had all of them from the beginning and just after buying the adjustable one I bought an EvoComp stock (which is fully adjustable anyway) so I never used the adustable green pad ..i put my standard green on it. Think Andy on here had it so could tell better. Then they made green ones to fit the EvoComp ......thank goodness....because EvoComp comes with kick ease on and they are sh*te.....they bounce about all over the place..!!

The X pad is the best yet. What I like about Dave is that he is committed to reducing recoil behind everything he designs. And he is constantly thinking of ways to make improvements.

I wonder what the next idea will be......and hope I get to trial it again.

I'm thinking of getting one of these x pads. Do you fit yourself or does it require a gunsmith?
Mine was fitted by a local cobblers, yesterday I took it back so he could shave a bit more off the sides towards the back as it was catching on my jacket, total cost so far £2.50  :D  .

Mind you I dropped a new Loake and a new Barbour brogues in for protective under soles fitting plus a favourite belt that has cracked and which I can't seem to find a replacement for to be either repaired or completely re-made, oh and the wife's fashion wellies she has only once worn needed seam repair........I'm sure he'll go easy on me.  :bb:

Maybe a naive question; would the adjustable version negate the need for stockwork/ an adjustable comb.  I have been told my comb needs raising a smidge but also that it needs to move to the left to get my head straight.  Would this be suitable?

As a slight aside - I assume that by using the adjustable version you would in fact increase recoil a little as the pad is not in direct alignment with the stock when adjusted?
