Good write up Hamid. Just one small point ,the XTR has got the standard Miroku/Browning trap pad on it, the Sporter is a Kick EEze which looked a lot more comfortable for you.

This may be a silly question but I assume if I go for a 23mm and this is too long, I would need the stock planed back or shortened. As this would then have less area than the pad, I could sand the recoil pad back to fit?

The pad is enormously wide before adjustment. So fix the overall length, then grind to fit whatever stock profile you ended up with after shortening the wood.

Toby

What length is your current pad? as this will dicate how much you will need to shorten the stock by if the 23mm one is longer.

lets assume your current pad is 17mm long and you fit a 23mm one then the lOP will have increased by 6mm. so to acheive a LOP the same as standard the stock will need to be shortened by 6mm.

It might be worth even trying the 23mm pad in the first place as you might find alonger LOP could suit you. As Clever has said the Isis pad as oversized by quite a bit to begin with and can be further ground down to suit a change in the LOP on the stock.n.

Just in case of any confusion.... The grinding is only to shape the oval to your stock shape. You cannot alter the 'thickness' of the pad once bought.

Ok thanks. Now I need to decide whether to have the stock shortened before I fit the pad or try it longer. I am just replacing the standard Miroku plastic thing on the sporter.

Ahhh will that be one of those curved pads then?

Apparently they do fit, I think some one on here has fitted an Isis to the curved stock, I haven't as I've always cut them straight to suit my LOP

If you speak to Dave at recoil systems he will suggest a 14mm for a curved miroku stock, if you want to fit a 23mm you will have to straighten the butt and shorten it slightly in the process.

I fitted a 14mm to my curved butt on a 525 and it went on ok, any thicker and it doesn't close the gap up in the centre of the curve between the screws. a standard miroku butt plate is only about 10mm roughly. My lop is now 15" with a 14mm and stock unaltered.

It takes more time to fit one to a curved butt, as every time you want to try it for fit when grinding you have to screw it on and off the stock to force the curve into it. A straight one just offers up loose without fixing it to. But if you ever want the original butt plate back on you need to keep the curve. You can still fit a curved one in a couple if hours easily enough.

Fit one too the stock and scribe it then take it off again, clamp a belt sander in a vice upside down and then sand it down to size, and keep adjusting it with a fine belt. Just take your time and be patient.
