Lainy and I went to Italy for new stocks this Christmas

We were there 3 days

Essevierre were brilliant and the stocks fit perfectly.

Looks fab, interesting designs as they look very different to the norm in the grip area and both (K80 in particular) look higher combed than most off the peg guns too.

Serious money? Look excellent!
Thank you Cyril

Twenty four hundred Euros for two.

Thank you Hammy

Very comfortable grip. Its not a full thumb stock but a bespoke variation of the grip stock.

My old stock was great just to skinny in the grip with no swell.

Was that for the wood as well or just the work and refinish?

Why can`t someone do that sort of service in this country,I wonder ????

They look excellent.

I approached a few but six weeks lead time and at least £500 more minimum.

Some were dam right rude and I would rather burn two grand than give it them.

Good on you, I have encountered idiots when trying to get Isis reducers fitted and flipped them one and made sure the seller knew too. There's plenty of people here who would like to have a service like that so seemingly effortlessly offered abroad but bafflingly nobody can see the opportunity.

Exactly why I posed the question! It`s either nocandoo or £kkk`s & wait for years for the job to be done !!!

We have to remember that Essevierre have been doing it for years and are geared up for fast turn around with blanks already headed up for various brands .

They have always enjoyed a good reputation , but I am sure they have also had their issues .

There are equally skilled suppliers here in the UK , but due to their popularity their workload is larger and obviously the labour charge is higher because of our economy.

Our stockers are very much behind the times! Most new stocks are shaped by hand with a draw knife, no copy lathes or CNC machines?

The girls in Perazzi can checker a stock in 45 minutes! A days work for a Brit? As for running costs? I doubt there is much difference today?

Cyril as usual , you go off on a tangent .

Custom stocks are hand crafted to suit each individual , have a look at Jeremy's stocks the layout for the checkering would take 45 minutes .

The gun trade in this country are still working as the Victorians did! But want modern day pay!

The difference with Essevierre is that they're not solely dependant on bespoke stockmaking or alterations for their revenues. They also make production stocks to a high standard for gun makers such as CG which means diversity, economy of scale and buying power with the wholesalers.

Specialist suppliers such as Essevierre or Giovanelli exist and thrive because Italy has a gun making industry. If we had a gun industry in this country producing decent guns for the masses we'd also have a functioning out source industry including stockmakers.
