Hi Robert, Strange that the Physio felt he was not allowed to refer. I'm just a community Physio but never had a problem with GPs taking my advice and getting scans/referrals pushed through. Most GPs welcome the advice of a Physio regarding MSK conditions as we are usually seen as the ones in the know... I guess maybe some of us are a bit more persistent than others.Nick - The physio was a young lad in the NHS at the local cottage hospital and it was he who said he was not allowed to refer for 3 months. I told the doc I was going private at 2.5 months and was in to see the specialist shortly after and then scan and then operation which was about 13 weeks after it happened. Perhaps I should have shouted sooner. I didn't envisage residual nerve damage and nobody warns you in advance so I just wanted to warn Wesley. Ibuprofen can be hard on the stomach and must only be taken after food. I was given something stronger than ibuprofen but was also given something to take each day to line the stomach to protect it.
It is a heavier duty anti-inflammatory than ibuprofen. Your GP will know your history and medications though so should be fine...I take prescription naproxen. Gp never said or asked about anything just gives it ?
I assume it's a heavy duty ibuprofen?
Strange, he seemed quite lucid when I met him ?I knew it IPS is on drugs !
WestleyWell, just a bit of an update really. I am due at Hospital tomorrow so hopefully will learn more then. I am reduced to shooting just 50 every 2 weeks, I have had to discontinue the anti-inflammatory tablets because they were causing terrible stomach upsets and constipation. It was uncanny really, the Guys that I shoot with knew that I was constipated, they would say "here's Westley, he's full of s**t" ! Just a shame they can not predict the source of the problem though. I have tried some of the things suggested above, which has increased the mobility in my shoulder, now if I can get rid of the pain too, the jobs a good un.
Thank you for that Robert, that is the action plan for tomorrow.Westley
If you are having stomach trouble with naproxen or ibuprofen then tell the doc and he should prescribe a stomach liner like Omeprazole 20mg capsules which certainly calmed my tum down.
The other thing that springs to mind is that the first time I had slipped disc about 15 years ago I went to a chiropractor who took money off me for 6 months. I didn't know I had a slipped disc until I saw a consultant and he sent me for an MRI scan which showed it up. He then said that there was nothing that a chiropractor could have done to "cure" my problem. I might enjoy periodic relief from some pain but it would always come back. He basically said that I had been ripped off paying for treatment that was no good!
Morale of the tale - get to see a consultant to get an MRI scan which is the only thing that will show it up. Then your consultant can advise what can be done!
or go and see a Physio who can also assess and refer on for scans. Most decent physios will be able to spot neuro symptoms very quickly and will refer on to orthopaedics. Most GPs will take our word for it and will just refer straight to Radiology for MRI. It is difficult to go straight to a consultant without going via a physio or GP.Westley
